That seems to be an interesting addition to the 'varmint arsenal'. I'm guessing that it is a diffused laser, but at what point of diffusion is it eyesafe?

As in, for critter control at the ranch, one doesn't want to blind their livestock in the process of protecting them.

We've succesfully used them out to 300 yards ourselves. With a good scope or binocular they are better than high end nightvision.

We know they work on hogs with no problem, it does not spook them very much. The verdict is still out on Coyotes. We hooked up Byron South (E. Texas buddy of ours) with them and he is currently testing them. Byron is an authority on Coyote hunting/calling, he is running it on a R-15 (Byron South edition of course).

One of the coolest things about this is that nothing is illuminated between you and the target unlike a standard spot light.

How are they seeing all these hogs they are kiling with this thing if it is dark? Are they running NODS up until trigger time?

Just duct tape for now.

I've been able to hold it in my left hand pressed up against the stock and be pretty effective.

Hogs are very predictable and repetitive creatures. You know where they are going to be and can locate them easily at night with almost any moon.

The ND3 is very effective just scanning too and it is much clearer at long range than a PVS14 behind a scope.

Just getting one period is hard to do, the factory is back ordered 2500 units right now. We have big orders in and every shipment we get goes right back out the same day to fill our back orders. Should taper off after Christmas.

Questions on the ND5:
When you used one did you see if the range is longer than the ND3?
Is the power switch momentary or is it click on click off?

If the ND5 were to have longer range than the ND3, I will buy one and use one of the Badger Picatinny ring cap and a tall 30mm ring mounted on it to hold the ND5 above the scope. Or mount it on the side rail using a set of Burris rings with inserts so I can adjust the parallelism to the scope or convergence at some distance, whichever works in the field. I think the body on the ND5 is close to 30mm.

Dave King, the owner of Midsouth Shooters Supply, had the ND3 here at the ranch. That thing had some serious range. I'd say it was a lot further than 250 yards.

it is 30.5mm so A guy should be able to rig it in same type of mounting system as ND3

this is a great product. my boss has used this product on a 17hmr with a zeiss 3-9x40 to nail racoons at 165 yards at night. to get better your looking at gen 3 night vision and gen 3 prices. awesome value for 300$

Got one a month ago. **update** now that its cold out, the only time I really need it, it does not work with prolonged exposure to cold .....like when coyote hunting! BSA acknowledged the issue and will not grant a refund for they're defective product!

talked to BSA rep today.

said ND5 not built to scope mount... no shock resistance in it. might ruin unit.

also, shut down fast in cooler to cold temps. Will not function below freezing in most cases.

not very applicable to night hunting in my area then...

The 5 is brighter and does have longer range abilities.

Is it just the ND-5 that shuts down in cold weather or is it both the ND5 and ND3? If it is both then I guess January Coyotes are out in Pennsylvania.

his name was Bob, at BSA. He said both models will shut down.

He said that is the main complaint they are getting and main reason for unhappy customers...

He said now they are telling customers in "colder" climates about the failures in the cold.

Found 30mm mount for ND-3...I just mounted the ND-3 laser on a Leupold VX-3L 3.5x10 with flip lense cover with no issues. I found a 30mm ring adjoined to a 1" ring on ebay for 15 bucks. Had to position the ND-3 at a 45 deg. angle so the beam would not be blocked by the lense cap. Since there is no adjustment of the beam position it was almost right on center over the reticle.

You can also use one of those handwarmers that you shake up to keep the laser warm and will work in colder climates. Just rubber band it around the laser and it should be fine.
