I'm getting ready to order a factory stock Stag model 6H tomorrow. Did my homework, handled one, my choice is made.

Wondering about scope risers for the flattop, intending to mount either a 42mm or a 50mm objective diameter, 1" tube scope. What will I need in terms of riser/rings, or will a conventional pair of see-thru rings provide enough height above the naked flattop?

What sort of cheek height adjustment will work with a conventional AR stock? Is a cheek height adjustment strictly necessary with the above/similar setups?

Looking for a fairly inexpensive, fairly reliable source for 10rd AR magazines which wil work pretty well with the USGI stripper/magazine charging system.

Re: Need advice buying Stag 6H

I mounted a SWFA SS 3-9x42 in medium height Burris XTRs with almost literally no room to spare. Mind you it was a 30mm tube. Right now I have a 10x40 Bushy 3200 in SWFA mediums that lives on the AR and Sig; it has a wee bit more clearance. They both were/are mounted on the receiver and not bridging between the upper and handguard.

This is presuming you aren't using irons. The Magpul MBUS rear would not fit under the ocular housing of either optic in those rings, nor could I mount either far forward enough to allow it to fit behind the ocular. In the case you are, maybe a cantilevered mount will suit you better.

On the topic of cheekweld, I am running an ACS, and while I run NTCH when I shoot standing without glass, I do change the LOP and move myself further back to accomodate using the rings instead of a cantilevered mount when shooting prone or sitting. With the rings and stock I listed above, I have no cheekweld issues.

Do hope this helps.

No irons, but I might keep a zeroed dot scope as a backup in case the optics get trashed. I keep a couple of inexpensive ones onhand. My basic scopes will probably be some less pricey Tasco Var/Targ MilDots or inherited vintage Simmons Whitetail Classics.

... and yes, this does help considerably, much thanks.

Called my dealer and asked him to get the ball rolling on the Sag Model 6 Super Varminter.

There is an apparent backlog, but he appears confident that the order will be filled without excessive delay. Same/same for additional 10rd mags.

You won't regret buying this at all. I've had mine for a couple of years. I absolutely love it. I use 20 round Pmags fwiw. It doesn't extend out too far and provides a bit more fun before reloading. I have the 10 rounder (C products is what they provide) it came with and never use it. I can provide some reloading suggestions if you wish. It will shoot .5 all day with hornady tap 75, and less with handloads. The farthest target at my range is 935 yards. Provided it's not too windy, it has no problem. Granted I live at 6000 feet.

Re: Need advice buying Stag 6H

My mag issue is New York State. Anything over 10rd is illegal.

Just for S&G's, I picked up a pair of Weaver quad see-thru rings yesterday. I they're NG, I'm only out about $12.

My initial plan is to shoot steelcase 75's, Hornady 75 Steel Case Match for initial eval, and TulAmmo 75 for non-crit applications. Since I can now afford to buy at least the less expensive factory ammo, I'm going to try and see if I can get by without handloading for the semi. If it's reasonably accurate, I plan on having a lot of fun with this rifle. Marmots Beware!
