My search-fu sucks...

I plan to coat my R700 with FDE Gunkote but I have a few unanswered questions yet. May the hide can help me out.

First of all, I have a SPS Tac, and IIRC that is parked already isn't it?

So do I need to blast or will the park job be just fine for proper adhesion?

Second, what parts to coat and what parts not to coat? I'm especially concerned with the bolt.

Should I coat the whole bolt from the lugs back? Or Only the bolt shroud, handle and the part of the body that shows? Any threads/pics of people that have BTDT?

What about the bottom metal? Is that stuff safe to bake in the oven? I don't think it's plastic, but I'm not really sure what it is.

I also plan to coat the base and rings (inside of rings taped off). Anything wrong with that?

Any other good advice from those that have BTDT?

ETA for one more question. I read on another site to remove all springs from the gun because heating the springs can cause detrimental effects. Typically tempering is done between 500-800 degrees F, is 300=350 F really going to hurt the temper of the springs?

Re: Need help with my GunKote project

I blast everything I coat just to make sure it is clean and has a good surface to bond to. I also coat the whole bolt, lugs and all. I do however take the bolt apart and remove the firing spring. I also remove the trigger from the housing to coat it along with the safety lever. Bottom metal is fine to coat as it is cast aluminum. The curing temp of 300 degrees will not hurt the springs but I always remove them anyways to make sure I have no left over blast media anywhere.

I had a feeling you might chime in. I thought about giving you a call but wasn't sure if you would remember me.

I'll give you a call sometime tomorrow.
