Just what the title says. I'll be using Lapua brass and Fed 215m primers. Scored a good amount of RL-25 and am needing to come up with a load.

94gr RL25 pushes the 250 Scenar to about 2980fps in my SRS. It's on the edge of being a hot load, so work up to it. COAL is 3.681"

Re: Need loads for 250gr and 300gr SMK's using RL-25

Thanks guys. Anyone have a load for a 300gr bullet? I thought RL-25 was the go to powder for .338LM...

Re: Need loads for 250gr and 300gr SMK's using RL-25

I checked the reloading depot and all three of my manuals and nothing. I would think this powder would be the go to for the heavier bullets. Do I need to start looking at faster burning powders?

91.5 RL25, Lapua brass, Fed215M, 3.600" OAL. Hot load please work up accordingly.

At what grains is the RL-25 "too hot" ??

Thanks. </div></div>

A load is considered hot when it is near, or at the max point of the powder curve. It may vary from one gun to the next. What I can tolerate in my gun may not be so with yours. So, when you borrow someone's recipe, for safety sake, please work up your load accordingly. Be safe.

Re: Need loads for 250gr and 300gr SMK's using RL-25

Well. I guess you got itfrom the horses mouth. Bye the way...A rifle I work with, which is admittedly not a stock Lapua mag...98 grains of RL 25 is not max. As Desert says...we're all Unique. Be safe. Go Slow.

Re: Need loads for 250gr and 300gr SMK's using RL-25

Is that 98 grains of RL 25 with a 250 or a 300 bullet? I'm running 86 grains of RL 25 behind a 300 SMK at 3.64" I'm shooting it out of a Rem 700 MLR which isn't a rifle I want to push too hard.

Did they give you the velocities with that data?

Nope, they did not. I know someone around here has the Sierra exterior ballistics software.

Re: Need loads for 250gr and 300gr SMK's using RL-25

I have only used 300 SMK's in the latest 338 Lapua. I started at 85.0 grs. RL25. Found a nice node at 86.5grs. RL25 with no pressure signs. Next range trip I'll load 4 rds. increasing the charge .5 gr until I see ejector mark or the bolt just starts to require a little extra effort to open. Always start low & work up.
