Well since I finished my m-700 5r , Ive been shooting a lot, and the wife wants to start shooting, but my taest caliber is my 7mm-08 model 700 which is the mountain lss version I use for hunting and would rather not have her bouncing it around and skyrocketing the round count, plus the rounds arent cheap, and its got some punch to it since its only 6/12 lbs with the scope mounted....

Anyway, I want to get her a 10/22 nothing pink, because she will no doubt lose intrest inside of a year, and It will be in the safe next to my guns....
Ive narrowed it down to either
a ruger target tactical
a Talo Team USA model
or a tactical innovations elite22
Im not really familiar with any of them, and there all around the same price $500 which is the budget.... I have tons of scopes I can throw on so the entire 500 cant get spent on the rifle, shes a girl so she liks the tactical innovations apple something, but I dont know much about the company at all...
Thanks any help will be greatly appretiated...

Go to a pawn shop and pick one up cheap, then buy a barrel, ( I prefer green mountain barrels, they are cheap and they shoot!!) a stock of your choosing, and either buy a trigger or do a little stoning of the factory one and put it together. Its not hard to do, really simple, and you will have more respect for it because you built it yourself....
Just be careful, because once you build your first one you will want to start another. and another, and another....

Ive looked around, all my local shops are expensive compared to just buying offline...
I looked into doing this, and it looks like the stocks are around $150 and barrels are $200, for another $150 I get the gun ready to go....

time is the key. if you have time, you could cruise the boards and snag a barrel used but cheap. grab a laminate stock cheap and get it all done for $400 maybe. ive always bought used and built up stuff. it is harder to find a donor gun for a good price ill tell you that. but, since it sounds like you will get the gun when she gets tired of it, buy what you like or just buy a 10/22 tactical or target. maybe look at guns america?

Re: Need to buy a nice 10/22 Which should I buy?

I have a brand new boyds laminate yellow $ blue thumbhole stock, finished in 8 or 9 coats of true oil I'd sell ya for $110 shipped. I bought a few of them years ago and never used this one. I can't remember the name of the stock, but it has the higher comb. I have two others set up the same and they are my fav 10/22 stocks for off hand & bench shooting. You should easily be able to find a GM barrel for around $100. Check the rimfirecentral classifieds. Pawn shops around here are usually in the $100-150 range on a used complete factory rifle. Then you can sell the barrel&stock to recoupe some of the money from that purchace. The new 10/22's suck, with all the plastic parts they put on em... much better to by an older used all metal 10/22.

Take a look and let me know, ill sell the whole thing pluss 500 rounds cheap ammo and about 400 rounds good ammo plus 2 10 rnd clips and 3 25 rd clips. Let me know what you think.
