OK,

Been messing with load development on my TRG-42, and just can't get consistant results with the 300 class bullets. 300 Berger Hybrids mostly shot bad, with the occaisional, not repeatable good group, and 300 Scenars shot "acceptable" but not what I would consider to be up to my normal standards- sub MOA but not nearly consistently sub .5 moa.

I have taken the plunge on the suggestion of Frank and ordered up a bunch of 250 Scenars. I have about 7 pounds of RL-25 on hand, and a bunch of Lapua brass. I have about a week to develop a load and then load up 250 of them to ship out to class at Gunsite in October (ELR class) so I need a head stard.

What RL-25 loads with 250 Scenars have worked well in your .338 Lapua?

Thanks,

-Bob

Can't help with RL-25. Just finished finalizing my loads for my MRAD in .338LM with Berger 250's & 300's with both Retumbo & H1000. Happy to give you, or anyone else, that data if that would help. Used a MagnitoSpeed Bayo on my Elite Iron suppressor to get mv.

Reloading Depot at the top of this forum:

"Sako TRG42 .338 Lapua 1-10"
32 degrees celcius
Lapua brass, 250 gr. Scenar, Fed 215M primer
C.O.L. 3.650"
Fired 5 rounds through the chrono with 94.0 gr. RL25
= 2970 fps avg."

Always start low.

Used the shit out of the search function and found the majority of people using 94 grains, so looks like I'll work up to that.

I would be interested in what your loads were that worked the best. I'm working with retumbo and the 300s right now.

92 grains of Retumbo with Berger 300 Hybrids gave me an average mv of 2725. Worked up from 89 grains. No pressure signs. .5 moa @ 100yds with the MRAD.

Ok I'll keep going with mine. I'm at 85 grains and have stopped. No pressure signs at all there. The accuracy is pretty good at 1.1" at 200 with the 84.5 and 85 grains 3 shot groups. Maybe I'll find another node higher up with better velocity.

Re: Need to know your 250 Scenar/RL-25 loads- 338 Lap

If you contact Walt Berger, he will tell you 89 is max load for his 300's due to size of his bullet, while reloads books will show more. I read earlier posts from this website that got up to 92 gr with scenars, so kept testing until i got to what they were using even though the bullets are different. You are doing right. Go slow.

I got heavy bolt lift with the 285 hornadys at 90 grains of retumbo which was a few grains below max. I'll load a few more up this weekend and hope i can get enough time to try them all.
