New 6XC brass?

Does anyone have any information regarding new 6XC brass manufacturers?

Currently using Norma. I’ve heard the Peterson rumor and also possibly an Alpha option.
Can anyone confirm this? Really wanting to go small primer pocket and use magnums.

There’s a member here that goes by Clownbuster that will make them out of lapua brass, neck turned and ready to load. Would probably be worth it to buy a quantity of them just to see if they do what you want.

Word on accurate shooter is that Tubb will be offering a small primer option because people want it, Peterson is the manufacturer.

His response to my “what about the large vs small study?”
“The detailed study still stands... I tested the Peterson 6XC small primer case this AM with 32 gr H4350 and a 115. Freezing temperatures yielded ignition with Rem small primers. Wolf magnum small primers didnt fare as well.. 1 Hang fire and 2 that DIDNT even go off... will still be offering a small primer version of the 6XC in the near future because that is what many think they need.

Yes, Jim See is testing Peterson 6XC brass if I am not mistaken. Alpha will as well, spoke to them, but no set date. Plus I saw an individual using and testing 6XC Alpha brass in a match.

Hmm, no wonder, only 32gr of 4350??? That's some poor load density and a very light load - I think anyway, heck, that's appropriate for 6mmDasher almost, but I don't load for 6xc.

I used to use 38.+?gr in my 6x47 with H4350 or N160, CCI 450 and 115's. 6x47l is a smaller case too. Or 41.? grains of H4831SC with the same primers and bullets. I eventually settled on the H4831SC load which was a super consistent load, which is a slower powder and theoretically should be harder to get lit. BTW I live at 7000ft elevation and have shot on some freezing winter mornings when at the time the camp fire was huddled around as much as possible.

It's the 450 magnum primers and +-100% load density that gives great ignition with SRP brass, IMO.

I cant speak to the specific peterson case specs but in norma 6xc brass Im running 39.4 gr h4350 under a 105 rdf and getting 2995 fps in my xc, that puts the powder fill line right up to the start of the shoulder I think, its tough to see down inside and I havent bothered to do an actual fill percentage calculation. Running 39.7 gr of rl 16 gets me 3080 in the same norma brass but even with that being a bulkier powder it still isnt all the way full (Ill be testing a bit higher to see just how far I am off of max pressure with this before I load lots of it beyond initial testing, only went to 40 in my initial ladder but didnt note any pressure issues thought the velocity increase has me concerned that I cant be very far off). With either of those I havent tested below 37 gr. 32 is way low.

Slow barrel? Or powder lot? I am running Norma 6XC and 105 gr RDF at 39.2 gr (H4350) and getting 3089 fps.

Sumpin's kinda goofy with that. I'm now up here in the UP, MI and @ -6F the Wolf regular small rifle primers were firing just fine in .223 and 6.5G.

Was there any further feedback of what happened in the case after he took the cartridges apart?

I had a very similar occurance with wolf primers and varget in 6.5x47 years ago. Hang fires at modest temps left and right. Switched primers and no hang fires for thousands of rounds after that.

That is interesting. I wonder if I need to pay more attention as I really might be getting slight hangfires? Just 'cause I don't see a problem doesn't mean there isn't one.

I haven't looked into primers the way I look into powders, so I wonder if it's an enhanced composition. Much like the difference in single vs. double based powders? Things to look into,eh?

The reason you shoot 3/4 powder charges is to determine if your primer is on the edge of reliable ignition. Hangfires or no ignition can be determined very quickly and that particular type of primer can then be eliminated from consideration.

Makes sense. I never have thought to test that. Are you finding issues with the regular Wolf as well? I can't say it's the loads I've been using, but i found them to be on the hotter side. At least the older copper ones. The ones I have now are brass. I just bought them this year.
