Also found out one of our 2021 Silverados with 2k miles windowed the block with a rod. When our guy took it to a dealer to figure out what's wrong, he pointed to 6 other trucks sitting on their lot that did the exact same thing at various miles under 10k.

I was thinking about a new truck towards the end of last year. Im my area every dealer has "market adjustment" over msrp pricing. Was trying to wait for a better market until #2 cylinder in my Silverado took a dump at 69k miles. Reman engine was on back order. Took 6 weeks to get a motor. This is all that is left of cylinder #2 . Im done with chevrolet.

Why would anyone pay over sticker for a mass produced vehicle that when the bubble burts, will depreciate like a rock? I used to be of the mindset that I had to have a new car every 2-3 years, like most Americans. Until I realized what a monumental waste of money that is. I wouldn't mind getting a more fuel efficient vehicle, but I'm not paying even MSRP for one. I'll just keep my truck and Jeep until the wheels fall off.

I was done with GM/Chevy in the 90's after having owned a 92 Chevy Blazer with a plastic fuel injection module that GM had a recall on and strung me around until the warranty was over and said sorry...not sorry. Will never own one again. Had a Ford have an issue and Ford picked up the tab. My Hondas and Mazdas have been trouble free and I drive 40k a year and buy new cars every 5 years.

This Rav4 is high on my list as well. I assumed they were extremely popular, especially in my area, and assumed there were HUGE dealer mark ups on them and the competition for buyers was strong. Now we're talking about a GX460. Which I assume is in low demand due to the horrid MPGs it gets and being body of frame doesn't appeal to the "soft" crowd.

It's pretty frustrating to see dealerships tacking on extra fees and markups on top of the sticker price. It's not just the sticker price and markup that you have to consider when buying a car, but also the cost of transporting it if necessary.

I was shocked my neighbor sold his 2012 4Runner with 180k for $25k even was gone in a couple of days on Craigslist. I've got a 2010 runs like an absolute beast gas, rubber and oil....rinse and repeat.

Yeah, there's a lot of articles and stuff coming out now that the car manufacturers are very happy with this new business model of keeping demand very high by lack of volume and not flooding dealer lots with cars, not having to offer rebates etc. They pre-sell most of the cars they make, they get to jack up prices, many are only making mid to high trims because they are by far the most profitable cars. Plus people have been beaten for 3 years now to blame it on covid and just accept all those markups and feel bad for those poor companies making record profit margins.

The only way it will change is if one of the car manufacturers breaks ranks and starts turning out tons of cars with lower prices, or consumers as a group gain 50IQ points and stop buying, which is very unlikely.

I asked him how it was going and he responded that he had never made more money. People just wanted a new car and didn't flinch at dealer mark-up, add-ons and all the other "bullshit" (his words).

Yep, for the last couple decades people thought car dealers were a pretty reputable business compared to their reputation before that, no haggle pricing, etc. It wasn't that they were good businesses, it's simply that the market didn't allow them to use the strategies they use now. $700 for nitrogen, $2000 PPF, adding every dealer accessory they can.

Manufacturers don't care, they just put out some articles that make it look like they are on the consumers side, by chastising the dealers playing games but they aren't bringing the hammer down.

The new game they like to play, is because some manufacturers started to balk at huge markups, so now they charge MSRP but if you want to place an order for say a Z06 vette, they auction off their order slots off etc. So you pay MSRP but you might have to pay $50k to get an order slot.

At the end of the day as long as consumers are stupid enough to keep buying cars despite the games, dealers are going to keep screwing them.
