as long it isnt heavy, obstruct vision or breathing, it looks like it has its uses...
i like the eye pro..
That lense looks to wrap pretty far around, even perfect peripheral vision is only 180 degrees. As far as the hearing goes, seems to me that a little ear pro, combined with some radio comms would be a good thing. NFL quarterbacks (maybe even college and some high schools, idk) have radio comms in their helmets, motorcycle helmets have it, why not the military?Looks to me like it would limit both peripheral vision and hearing, though it would help in a sandstorm, Id guess.
That thing looks like one enormous pain in the ass. The brain buckets are already miserable to wear in the desert, that thing just adds levels of daily misery.
Back when we used to "turret-surf" out of the gunners hatches on HMMWVs that thing would've helped for when you smashed your face into a heavy gun or TOW system, but for dismounts hell no.
Whats worse, is that the way the Army treats PPE these days is that if it's issued or available you've got to wear it, whether its mission appropriate or not. So even if you can pull the mask off of that thing, the troops are still likely going to be required to have it on.
What fun to constantly have that visor coated with poo dust, fogged up, rebreathing your own field breath, with the sweat rain running down the inside of the helmet. No fucking thanks.
What Bogey said!! Boonie hats for the win. 'Cept I know nothing about fighting in a sandbox.
I thought for a second this was going to be another gear review by Magnus Boner...

Txfireguy, here is what is wrong with wrap around helmets with comms.

You can't hear or see shit. In SF we have this thing called a "listening halt". Helmets are great for certain situations. The monstrosity above, no doubt appeals to a generation raised on "HALO" and "Call of Duty", but will get you killed. No "situational awareness".
The good news is that helmet is modular, you can run it simply as a straight ACH style helmet those of us old(er) guys hate and despise, but for some reason know and love out of pure nostalgia. So for standard foot patrols, still the basic brain bucket that's been in use since the first kevlars were introduced back in the 80s. It would be awesome for them to move to high cut helmets for everyone, but we all know that one isn't happening, would be too "cool guy-ish" for straight legs to wear the good shit. Conversely, if like Bogey said the Army commands require everyone to wear every last piece of PPE and troops wear this full face shit on foot in the bush? Well, that's just stupid but it wouldn't surprise me for a moment, COs can be pretty stupid that way.
The face shield and ballistic mandible cover, that would be fucking awesome for running in a turret or bird where you're on a pintle mounted weapon anyhow. Yeah, dust would get all over the lens, but still better than all up in the eyes. As a past CAAT Plt Sgt, my guys did all they could to keep the shit out of their eyes and mouth/nose, so this helmet would go a long ways to fulfill those protective needs right along with hopefully some additional blast protection to reduce the severity of TBI. Something to block the wind in the face when it's cold and running in a turret would be money in the bank.
Bogey, were you the dog handler? And that is an IED dog?
Helmet - when I look at that new design, I see what appears to be a hinge mechanism that would allow the face shield to be rotated up, over the top, and perhaps even around to the back side where it would be out of the way.
Incidentally, if you haven't seen the HBO mini-series "Generation Kill" you are missing out.
I certainly won't argue with those far more experienced than me at dodging bullets. I'm not military, so I have no experience in that realm.Txfireguy, here is what is wrong with wrap around helmets with comms.
