Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie
Bought the DVD yesterday and viewed it.
Entertaining, original for a Conan movie, and honestly, I think the protrayal was better for not trying to emulate the Arnold flicks.
The special features make some arguments about the original Howard stories and Conan persona, and I think their arguments have some validity.
Momoa handled the role with some panache, the character who was the more incomprehensible was Steven Lang's villain. Kinda two-dimensional; I hope they paid him well, because the writing did not provide him with a character to relish for his resume.
The production design of Hyborea/Cimmeria is utterly heroic; and the Ron Perlman role was very well crafted by all involved.
The ladies are easy on the eyes, their characters are fair-to-middlin' tasty.
Like others, I think it's better than I'm reading here, and wonder what folks would be saying if they never saw the Arnold flicks. You folks gotta look at things more objectively, IMHO.
In so asking, while I like the Arnold Flicks, I think they took the original Conan persona rather a ways from the original author's intent. He's written as sagacious, but Arnold's character is..., just..., not.
