bolt-gunners, i've been doing some research on a future build for a Remington 700 action that i have that lacks a stock. i thought i'd try and make a list of the various chassis here that i have found and ask y'all if i have left any out and perhaps it might be helpful to someone who's looking at doing the same thing. hopefully i have not duplicated something that someone has already done. along the way, i'll try and put an illuminating comment or two.
AICS/AICS-AX: the AICS has long history here on the hide with both supporters and detractors. several hide vendors carry these stocks. prices vary depending on adjustable or non-adjustable, folder or non-folder, but run around $830-$1100 give or take. AICS-AX run closer to $1300-1400. Viperskins (also from a hide vendor - http://www.victorcompanyusa.com/viperskins.html) are upgraded skins (changes it from an thumbhole to a pistol-grip) and can be bought with side picatinny rails for the AICS which look very nice.
Drake/CADEX: seems to share some DNA with the XM2010 rifle in service with the army. folder, rails, aluminum and steel. adjustable. very cool looking but also very expensive. hide price is $2199, MSRP is $2500. the height over bore of the optic looks to me to be around 3" - this is due, i suspect, to the long continuous 20MOA top rail. i'm not sure that i've seen anyone here review it who has purchased one. http://www.drakeassociates.us/content/strike30
Tubegun: glue in your action. stock pieces come from ARs so you have the wealth of options from basic to match adjustable. very accurate as this setup is common in XC matches in the match rifle category. $581 and up. http://www.tubegun.net/
JAE700: these made a splash here on the hide when they first came out. i have not seen very much about these recently (have i missed anything?). good looking stock. side rails available. prices start at $799 and options go up from there. they are currently running a free thumbwheel cheekpiece upgrade (normally $200). various colors. http://www.jallenenterprises.com/jae700_overview.htm
Whiskey-3: variation on the TRG stock. folder and non-folder ($1260 and $890 respectively). some options available (flush cups and bottom picatinny rail). comes in any color you want as long as it's black. many satisfied hide members. http://kineticresearchgroup.com/products/w3c.php
McRees: well thought out stock. also has a very wide following on the hide. folder, non-folder, and AR-furniture compatible versions. someone will have to fill me in on prices. http://mcreesprecision.net/rifle_stocks.html
