(note: all - i did not know there was a limit to the number of pictures on a post. it turns out, there's a lot of chassis systems out there. i've taken the original thread and restarted it here so that the list is all in one place making it easier to see. sorry for the extra post. i'll update the original thread with a pointer to this one.)

bolt-gunners, i've been doing some research on a future build for a Remington 700 action that i have that lacks a stock. i thought i'd try and make a list of the various chassis here that i have found and ask y'all if i have left any out and perhaps it might be helpful to someone who's looking at doing the same thing. hopefully i have not duplicated something that someone has already done. along the way, i'll try and put an illuminating comment or two.

AICS/AICS-AX: the AICS has long history here on the hide with both supporters and detractors. several hide vendors carry these stocks. prices vary depending on adjustable or non-adjustable, folder or non-folder, but run around $830-$1100 give or take. AICS-AX run closer to $1300-1400. Viperskins (also from a hide vendor - http://www.victorcompanyusa.com/viperskins.html) are upgraded skins (changes it from an thumbhole to a pistol-grip) and can be bought with side picatinny rails for the AICS which look very nice.

Drake/CADEX: seems to share some DNA with the XM2010 rifle in service with the army. folder, rails, aluminum and steel. adjustable. very cool looking but also very expensive. hide price is $2199, MSRP is $2500. the height over bore of the optic looks to me to be around 3" - this is due, i suspect, to the long continuous 20MOA top rail. i'm not sure that i've seen anyone here review it who has purchased one. http://www.drakeassociates.us/content/strike30

Tubegun: glue in your action. stock pieces come from ARs so you have the wealth of options from basic to match adjustable. very accurate as this setup is common in XC matches in the match rifle category. $581 and up. http://www.tubegun.net/
tubegun.jpg

JAE700: these made a splash here on the hide when they first came out. i have not seen very much about these recently (have i missed anything?). good looking stock. side rails available. prices start at $799 and options go up from there. they are currently running a free thumbwheel cheekpiece upgrade (normally $200). various colors. http://www.jallenenterprises.com/jae700_overview.htm
jae700.jpg

Whiskey-3: variation on the TRG stock. folder and non-folder ($1260 and $890 respectively). some options available (flush cups and bottom picatinny rail). comes in any color you want as long as it's black. many satisfied hide members. http://kineticresearchgroup.com/products/w3c.php

McRees: well thought out stock. also has a very wide following on the hide. folder, non-folder, and AR-furniture compatible versions. someone will have to fill me in on prices. http://mcreesprecision.net/rifle_stocks.html
mcrees_folder.jpg

SABER/FORSST: carbon fiber fore end. various models with folder/rails ($2550 and up), non-folder/fewer-rails ($1660 and up), and a sporter version (no rails, $1275). http://www.ashburyprecisionordnance.com

Rock Solid: relatively new (to me, at least). one piece of aluminum. looks very functional. i cannot seem to find a web site for the manufacturer, but mike at CS tactical posted a video here: http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3367323&page=all. ( note, i could not fit a picture in this post - instead, i have put it in the third post, down below a bit)

TAC21: a really interesting system. from what i can see, it is a tube gun without glue. about $800. uses AR furniture on the stock and grip which are not included in the price. AR ergos but the safety cutout looks like an afterthought. http://modulardriventechnologies.com/products.html

<continuing the list - part 2>

H&S: not really a chassis, but one way to bolt up an action directly without having to bed it. standard on some remington models.

i'm sure i missed a few. if you know of one, please add to this list. thanks for reading.

EDIT - thanks for pointing out some additional ones, guys.

forgot the XLR! very well regarded. many options and actions beyond just the rem700. prices run rom $750-835. http://www.xlrindustries.com/evolution.html
xlr_tac.jpg

JP is new to me: very nice looking system. has anyone here tried one? $1099. http://www.jprifles.com/1.2.6.1_AMCS.php

more EDITs - thanks for pointing out the ones i missed, guys!

PDC custom: very svelte looking skeleton stock. http://www.pdccustom.com/

eberlestock M11: i saw this one once before and it slipped my mind. elegantly simple and efficient look to it. base price of $1895. http://www.eberlestock.com/M11%20Stealth%20Rifle%20Chassis.htm

Desert Tactical Arms: bullpup configuration on their custom action. http://www.deserttacticalarms.com/guns/precision-rifles/dta-srs-sniper-rifle-chassis.html
DTAchassis.jpg

TacMod: they seem to sell chassis to rifle makers, according to the web site. unclear if you can order one directly. round handguard can be removed. folder. http://tacmodstock.com/Order/index.php
tacmod.png

Elisio RTS/RTM: neat setup. requires changing your recoil lug and replace it with a recoil disc. uses AICS magazine. some modifications to the receiver may be required. $1050.

Roedale Precision: Made in Germany. Roedale has two different lines, the RCS and the Raptor. externally the RCS line looks very much like an AICS or an AICS wearing Viperskins. internally, you can choose Tikka T3 and Howa 1500 in addition to the Remington 700. folder and non-folder. <span style="text-decoration: line-through">i cannot find prices on their web site, but</span> i have found price around <span style="text-decoration: line-through">$940</span> $785 (not including shipping from Germany). a <span style="text-decoration: line-through">distributor</span> contact is on the hide (Pete Lincoln).

Roedale Raptor: also inlet for Tikka T3, Remington 700, and Roedale's proprietary AvengerII action. folder and fixed stock, AR buttstock option, and various forend options, tho the web site is a bit lite on what these are. <span style="text-decoration: line-through">$1140</span> $960 (not including shipping from Germany).

Alpine Gunworks: This is a new system. The emphasis for this modular stock appears to be light weight - lots of carbon fiber brings the weight down to 2.5 pounds (short action, fixed stock model). the system consists of two pieces, the chassis and the buttstock. the system can be ordered with either a fixed or quick detachable buttstock (hard mounts to the side of the chassis when not attached in the firing position http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-8CzX804lM). costs $700 for short actions and $725 for long: remington 700 SA/LA and clones, savage short action (4.410") and savage long action. fixed stock is $270, detachable is $370. www.alpinegunworks.com

Force: just found this one while surfing. for remington 700 SA/LA (web site says both that the SA is available now and available soon, so i think it needs some updating). smooth sided and with rails included. according to the description, the chassis comes with hardware so you can install an AR-type buttstock. $840. http://www.forceproduction.com/DemonForce/Demon_Force.html

Here are some other pictures of the Alpine Gunworks stock. This modular chassis is as light as most composite stocks...

Re: New consolidated chassis list

Can anyone provide first hand feedback on the TAC-21 and the JP Enterprises AMCS? I just bought a Remington 700 5R .308 24". I've been reading through all of the recent and old <span style="font-style: italic">"Rem 700 build/Newb with .308/Need Rem 700 advice"</span> threads to get more information, but I can't seem to find any reviews from people that actually use either of these chassis systems. I have narrowed it down to the AICS, the TAC-21, and the JP Enterprises AMCS, but I'm leaning towards the later two. I have 2 other rifles that both have the pistol grip with the palm resting shelf and the Magpul PRS buttstock. I am very comfortable with both of those items. The pistol grip with the palm resting shelf seems to help me put my hand in the same place on every shot. Same thing with the PRS buttstock. Just set the cheek piece and leave it, and your head is in the same place every time. I'm new to long range shooting, but consistency = accuracy right (unless you're doing it wrong)??? The TAC-21 and the AMCS both have the option to use that grip and stock combo....and it's tacticool to boot!

Does anyone know if there are trigger restrictions on either of those chassis systems? I'm leaning towards a Jewel trigger, but could end up going with a Timney. Not sure on that yet. Any advice on that would be appreciated, but I'm trying to stick to the OP's topic here.

Re: New consolidated chassis list

Here's a link to a TAC-21 review thread that I found in a search. Pretty informative if you're looking for information about the TAC-21. It's starting to sound like that chassis is not a very viable option, which is too bad since I already have a Magpul PRS and a pistol grip with the palm shelf that I could've installed.

Now if I could find some reviews on the JP Enterprises AMCS chassis I could start making some decisions. My 5R should be arriving next week.

Re: New consolidated chassis list

I own a Tac-21, I have also had some time behind the XLR chassis so I will try to compare it to that in a few words, the mdt chassis is a touch heavier then the XLR with the tactical buttstock installed. It's solid as a tank, built in 20 moa base is a plus. The safety is a little hard to get at but I'm switching to a no safety tactical trigger so it won't have any effect on me. The gun I have it on is a 338 lapua improved and a 6.5-284 Norma switch barrel set up. The forends on both the mdt and the XLR are nicely sized. They both feel the best with an ergo grip on them. The really great thing with the mdt is its modularity, the forend and buttstock break down so quick and they are instock at serveral large retailers so no wait time and well priced. Plus it's tough to beat the customer service from Lazlo @Mdt

Re: New consolidated chassis list

About these chassis systems... I have seen only few pictures "inside" the chassis and some manufacturers seem to have three machined surfaces in them. http://i43.tinypic.com/35a6g5y.jpg

Does the action (if its round from the bottom like 700, t3 etc.) make contact with all three surfaces, or just with the side surfaces?

Thanks!

Not listed, and as far as I know not available yet, is the Accurate Mag Sport Tac chassis. Looks a bit like the RAPTOR and should be close in price but US made. I spoke to them a few times on the phone and appears a July/Aug release date (or later) other then that not much info but looks promising.

Here is a photo of the Accurate Mag chassis. Called today and they are looking at September/October for full release. Price was "estimated" at the 1k area.
