New GAP Extreme Hunter in 6.5 SAUM

Looks like some of the info from the old thread is missing. So I am looking for some help.

For those who switched from the Remington brass to the Hornady head stamped brass from GAP, how much did you have to adjust your powder charge?

Thanks!

Any update from anyone on this? I loaded 50 Hornady 143 ELDX and 50 Berger 140 Hybrids at 60 gr H1000 to break in DT SRS Benchmark barrel, Hornady brass from GA Precision.

Thanks

Did you measure your car capacity? That's the best way to tell. When I switch brass brands ib always do a ocw test again, just to verify

My thinks I only have 3 guns

Not yet, just getting the barrel broke in before the OCW. Was looking for user opinions who have switched and noticed major differences in the tried and true 61 for the 140s and 63 for the 130s.

Thanks

I tired it, results were not good. My go to load with prepped Rem 7 saum brass is 60.3 of H1000. 6 firings on this bras and still holds a primer no problem. With a magnetospeed I get about 3130 to 3140fps with 25" benchmark barrel.
I loaded up the Hornady 6.5GAP Headstamped brass with 58g of H1000 and I hade ejector marks and one primer actually fell out after I fired. Velocity was avg 3094 fps.

So it is way different from Rem brass in my experience, start way lower than you think.

If you are using H brass start at 57gr H1000 w the 140's and work up. You can't push the H or Norma brass as hard as Remmy. Don't use magnum primers as they are not needed. People push this cartridge way to hard and its not needed 3080-3100 for the 140's is plenty and you will see great accuracy and long barrel life

Thanks Clint E. and bas402, this is what is was looking for even of its not what I wanted to hear. This will save me some grief down the road. I appreciate the responses.

It's not a bad thing, the H brass&Norma are not Remmy but they perform fine. I will be running H brass when my Remmy is gone and if I can get 4-5 cycles from it that's fine. I already have run quite a bit of both and know I can get that but with the H brass it's less work and headaches

Is the 3 runs of H brass all similar or has it improved?

Thanks

Forgot to show off this beauty in this thread. It's changed a little since then. Now where's Area 419 hellfire and a Conquest V6 3-18x50.

Looking to find Dad a flush mag as he says the length of the 7rd alpha is bothering him. I know Glen is coming with carbon fiber 3 round mags for AICS patterned DBM but until then idk of any 3 rounders except the Curtis Custom which is 308. Could it be modified for SAUM?

Hornady's new 135 A-tip is damn impressive ! Got some to T&E, I'll be running them out long range when the snow melts off :)

Base to Ogive is .542

Loaded 2.935 COAL which is 10 thou off. Shooting them in 120 FB, 26" Bartlein 8 twist in my heavy comp rifle. 3140 FPS

Pictures are loaded rounds, show how far bullet is seated and 135 A-tip next to 147 ELDM

Thought I might do a casual early summer bump to see if anyone is using their 6.5 SAUM with the Berger 156.

I've become incredibly impressed with heavy 6.5 cal bullets driven at moderate speeds, so I'm wondering if the SAUM and the 156's are a match made of reloading rainbows and unicorns...

Has anyone used 139 scenars on big critters (elk, eastern moose) up close? I always seem to end up with a 30-50yd shot, when I'm ready for 200-500! Alternatively, I'd love to hear how 127 LRX is working for folks.

Yup, I know they do great at distance. I just want to make sure my bases are covered when things get Western at 30 yards!
Check out this thread. IIRC Pat aka @psinclair has killed a few big critters at close range with this bullet out of the XH.
