New GAP Extreme Hunter in 6.5 SAUM

To be honest, I built the rifle planning on shooting the amax. I haven't killed anything with the rifle yet, but I might drag it along as a backup to my 7 saum on a New Brunswick moose hunt this fall. I have amax, scenars and 127 lrx on the shelf, so I might just see what shoots best and call it good.

Hey all. Looking to swap my 24in steel barrel for a carbon barrel after elk season this yea. Does anyone have any recommendations on length? Contour? Twist?

I think ultimately I will be sticking between 139 scenar, 143 eld-m/x and 147 eld-m/x.

I will be sending it in to GA precision for the work and getting a Jager 6 suppressor at the same time.

Any info from all you experts here would be greatly appreciated.

The lead up to the season was a real gong show, so I ended up running the 7saum 120tsx load that I’ve been shooting for years. Found this eater bull on the last day of the 5 day hunt. He had his head down feeding, so all I knew was it was an adult moose. Shot was broadside at 70m. Quarter sized entrance and exit, center of the lungs. He was down before I came out of recoil. Couldn’t ask for better eating.

Has anyone used 139 scenars on big critters (elk, eastern moose) up close? I always seem to end up with a 30-50yd shot, when I'm ready for 200-500! Alternatively, I'd love to hear how 127 LRX is working for folks.
Shot one moose with the 139 scenars @320-DRT one shot double lung. Shot 5 with 127LRX from 5 to 275 yards all one shot. The 5 yard charging bull@5 yards was frontal other 4 were broadside double lung. All moose from 53” to 61”

I wanted to ask for some advice. I am looking at ordering a PTG reamer in the .296nk/.081fb for my 6.5 saum build. I have Redding Type S dies and will be loading new ADG 6.5 SAUM brass. As for the neck tension I intend on using a .293 bushing. Will the .004 clearance be sufficient? Also how often should I expect to neck turn with this brass? I appreciate any assistance you can provide me.

I have that same reamer, and have found that turning necks is definitly required. I would aim for a .290 loaded diameter, so likely .287 bushing.

My point is that a loaded neck diameter of .294 in a .296 neck is really not enough room to get a clean relase of the bullet. You would be better off ordering a reamer with a more generous neck if you don't want to turn necks.

My Rem brass for 6.5 Saum is turned so I have .003" clearance in my chamber. It seems perfect and never a problem.

My 6mmBR has .002" clearance on unturned brass and never a problem.

6x47L had .0025" on turned brass with no problems.

I don't clean the barrels much and I shoot in the dirt off bipod most of the time. I can't recall having split neck plus the brass lasts a long time. I think I'm on the 8th cycle now in the 6.5 Saum.
With a 29" barrel I get 3240 fps with 140 hybrids and 60gr Retumbo.
