New GAP Extreme Hunter in 6.5 SAUM

Does the 6.5 saum benefit much in a 26 inch tube ? Is the added weight and length worth getting over the 3200 hump for under 700 yards ? I have read of only one 26 inch tube on this thread. ( or maybe over looked or miss-read of some )

You guys have long lost the race, Ive had mine for about 3-4 weeks now :)

I have some 130 bergers, 130 jlk's and 13x creitacious or however you spell it :) All pointed and looking for some brass now, I keep missing it here on the hide.

These rifles are stupid accurate. Been incredibly impressed so far.

Zero'd at 200 and tested out to 839 yards this weekend at the Icebreaker III shoot. About 50 rounds downrange so far.

Cinch was spotting and I had first round hits at 509, 710, and 839 yards. The 140's and 130's are both very impressive.
15.2 MOA at 839 with the 140 AMAX.

will post more results soon. Gonna be very impressive platform !!

Great looking and preforming rifle. I hope to get one ordered soon.

I purchased the no neck turn reamer. A friend chambered his rifle with this reamer and he still has to turn the necks. He said its not chambering with out turning the neck. Is this how its supposed to be? Im trying to figure out if i need to order a reamer that is a true no neck turn.

.298 is no turn, but sizing the neck from 300 RSAUM brass will cause a buldge at the base and normally a burr at the lip that will cause you issues. If you get the 6.5x300 Dies that Coper creek sell that are for No Turn brass you should not have the issue your having. its caused from the champfer in the Neck bushings

Will sizing from 7mm SAUM yield the same results?

Thanks for the response.

Thanks, best decision you could make!! :)

Yes I believe it is the best decision I could make as well. I miss the GAP rifle I used to own below in 6.5x284. I never would have sold it but times got tuff when I was between jobs.

I really like what I have been reading so far on the 6.5 SAUM 4S.

Nice Winchester.

We need more data about the .298 no neck turn.

What do you do if you have the 7 rsaum sizer to eliminate the bushing buldge? The only choice is turning the shoulder? Did you try switching the bushing the other side? Same results?

Thanks George! Do you recommend one reamer over the other? (.2962 or .298).

Its answered in this thread several times, The .2962 is the better as you have to clean the run out off the neck. it yields more consistent neck tension and straighter alignment with the throat.

Its a bigger pain to prep brass but you only have to do it right once!!

other side if it has less of a champher might work. The 6.5x300 Dies that Redding sells are made exactly for this purpose. Copper Creek has them in stock.

Most if not all this thread and Pats Loading for the 6.5 Saum 4s is written for the .296 neck turned version that we use. I think that out of over 100 rifles we have done 1 No-turn, possibly 2. I do know that if you neck down the 300 or 7mm SAUM brass you get a .296 neck with a bullet seated so it will fit in the .298 chamber if there is not a bulge or ridge on the neck.

I have the Redding 36280 that cooper creek sell under the 6.5 gap 4s vld with .290 bushing? Is this the same thing that you speak?

about the .296 neck in the .298 chamber isn't that a good thing that they're is a .002 clearance in the chamber neck area?

Alright but ''all'' i need is a .294/.295 bushing in this die setup? No?

The finished product. Added a NF 2.5-10x42 (thanks to Jay @ Sport Optics) in Seekins rings and a neoprene buttstock sleeve. Shoot very much in weather below freezing and the neoprene is real nice!

What neck turner are you using? What is the angle on the cutter? I have turned quite a few necks in my time and haven't seen that much of the shoulder removed. I have a GAP 6.5 SAUM on order and have prepared some cases and they do not look like that. Mine are slightly cut in to the shoulder but not up the shoulder like yours. I bought some Copper Creek prepped brass and tried to copy it on my brass. Yours is much different than the C4 brass. I guess I will find out if my brass is OK when I get my Rifle.

Nuttin wrong with the shooters with the bolt on the wrong side. Just got my new Pierce titanium in for my next 6.5 SAUM build. Should have it screwed together in the next couple of weeks. Specs will be as follows:
Pierce titanium action
#3 fluted Brux finished at 24" w a custom break
BDL bottom metal
Mcmillian gamescout with edge package
Shilen trigger
Talley LW rings
Topped off w a nightforce 2.5-10x42 scope

Should weigh complete around 7 1/4lbs. Maybe a shade less.

Look out high country mule deer!!

anyone build theirs on a long action? Any issues running it in one? Always built my 6.5x284's on a L/A. I have one due for re barrel and not doing a ground up build would save me a bunch. Running 300wm AI mags , any troubles there? Im a 6.5 nut and this thing looks awesome.

I built one on a rem700 long action. No problems with it, I am running seekins btm metal and AI 300wm mags. it feeds just fine. The only real problem I noticed is that with all the left over space in the mag it sometimes makes for a real bitch when loading the mag, the rounds have a tendency to not wanna do what I want them to.

I built mine on a Surgeon XL. I had to mill out one of the rear impressions on the AI 300WM mags because the Saum brass is too wide. 338l mags work though.

The throat on mine is reamed out farther also. 3220 fps/140 hybrids- Retumbo and a 29" barrel.

I'll edit with a link to the project when I get home.
