New Giraud annealing machine

I'll second that!

While it looks like a workable design I surely don't see what all the rave is about. Some of these guys act like annealing is going to be something they need to do as often as trimming to where a case feeder is even needed, not only that but the Bench Source can be fed almost as fast as you can load the feeder on the Giraud. The one size fits all perfectly design and the added flexibility of the duel torch setup not to mention the anodized billet aluminium construction of the Bench Source makes it a much more attractive product for probably less money after the Giraud goes off sale and all the different feed plates are bought for it.

But I'm happy for him and hope it does well.

Re: New Giraud annealing machine

will do - its at my house now, but i am on a business trip and will only be home for about 24 hours this weekend so it might be awhile.

On a side note anyone in the North Dallas area is welcome to try the system out if you are interested in buying one... just arrange a time with be and bring some brass.

Re: New Giraud annealing machine

Mine will be here Friday. I have the tempilaq on hand and a pile of clean brass with 5-6 reloads waiting for a trip through the torch.

I wonder how many that feeder will hold, looks like a lot.

"shouldn't" or "can't"? That's how I always anneal my brass...after loading....

Just don't get the flame too close to the shoulder for too long or you could look like this guy...

only with brass and partially burnt powder instead of diamonds...

It's hard to tell by watching the video, but if you read the instruction manual at his website it describes how the sliding bar rotates the brass, and how to make sure it's adjusted properly to do so.

Yes

Re: New Giraud annealing machine

Picked mine up from Doug while at Perry. Just got home yesterday and getting ready to head back out to Canada, so its going to be a bit before i get mine up and running. If anyone has any hints, please post.

John,
I have had a chance to use mine for some 223 and 308. Works great but I had on small hitch. The trolly that the case lands on and spins it was not returning all the way down. Little shot of aresol dry lube and she's running 100%. Just used it tonight and really like it. Good luck in Canada.

Re: New Giraud annealing machine

I am having the same problem; if I put a folded towel on the left side of the machine to raise it about 1/4" it works perfect but I can not get it to return to the normal position on a flat surface. I have been trading emails with Doug about this and he is giving me some tips to try.

I think this machine is great, but could be better with the addition of a spring-loaded plunger that the trolley pushes against on the way back so when it is to release to the initial position it has a little help from behind.

Re: New Giraud annealing machine

Just ran 350 cases through mine. Found 3 slightly split necks-- that was the motivation for the purchase of the machine in the first place.

Very quick to use after the initial setup on a sacrificial case with Templiaq-- start piling cases in the hopper and let it work. You can keep loading the hopper as it's annealing the first few cases you dropped in.

One "upgrade" I might do is replace the bolt on the bottom of the torch holder with a short stud and a knob. That way I don't have to grab a wrench to adjust the torch angle.

Like the others, out of the box the sliding trolley was a little "sticky" and not completely returning to the bottom stop but a few squirts of powdered graphite on the trolley bearings as Doug suggested in the instructions made it run 100%.

If the trolley not returning to the bottom all the time proves to be a recurring issue I may add a return spring... but if Doug gets enough questions on this issue my hunch is he'll send out a retrofit kit. A small amount of weight added to the trolley assembly might work well also.

Overall it's a well thought out and very functional machine much like his case trimmer.

Re: New Giraud annealing machine

Used the machine a few times now and I will say it is 100% worth the money. The hopper design is genius and really makes for easy batch processing of your cases.

I have yet to get the return carriage to work properly; I've tried the dry lube and bending the assembly as instructed and it just doesn't work. I put a towel under the left side and run it at a 15 or 20 degree angle and all is well.

I have a 30-30 case w/ a spring inside of it and a wooden dowel to use as a spring-assisted guide but have not have the time to mount it yet but I am sure that will get me flat and level but really operating it at an angle still allows 100% functionality so I am not in that much of a hurry to "fix" it.

Highly recommend these units.

If your in the north dallas area and want to anneal a bucket full of cases I can be easily bribed with beer.

Re: New Giraud annealing machine

It does look pretty sweet, but not as versitile as some of the other annealers out there... This is the FIRST 100% automated machine isnt it?

Im sure someone could get a case feeder to work with some of the more classic designs, but then we run into....

Can it anneal the BIG magnums? I dont think those huge diameter cases would fit in that wheel OR a case feeder.

EDIT: It helps to read the ad. page doesnt it? I see they make wheels for bis ass calibers.

Re: New Giraud annealing machine

I was comparing the Giraud with the Bench Source as far as price is concerned. Looks like you could buy the Giraud along with all the optional parts for any caliber less than .50 BMG and still pay less than what the Bench Source costs. I saw someone post in another thread that he was using the same wheels, etc for both .223 and .308.
