A guy at my department went to a Glock armorers school yesterday, and he said that the instructor (part of Glock's design team, whatever that means) was dropping hints that glock would be entering the patrol rifle arena after having spent 85 million on r&d. I cant seem to find anything on the interwebz to substantiate this claim and im wondering if its all bs. I questioned my friend about it and he claims that instructor told him that it was not one of the conversion kits weve all seen with a stock that encases your standard glock pistol. From the vague hints the instructor dropped, it would appear that this new weapon is a more traditional carbine.

Re: New Glock Rifle?

Did you miss a decimal or something because 85 mil is small aircraft R&D costs. If that's what they actually said then I had better get my hip waders because it's getting deep.....

Re: New Glock Rifle?

$85,000,000.00 is what was told to me. It included a new range at their facility in Smyrna Georgia. It was also said Glocks reasoning for this venture into long guns was that they had already cornered a large corner of the LEO pistol market, so why not move into Patrol Rifles? I am personally calling shenanigans on this one but I told my buddy i would look into it.

Re: New Glock Rifle?

If it cost them $85 million to do R&D on a rifle, they must have fucked it up pretty bad.

Sounds like total BS though. $85m is way over the budget of what huge diesel (Caterpillar) companies spend.

That instructor was full of shit.

Re: New Glock Rifle?

I agree that if they spent 85 mil just on R&D it was a collosal clusterfuck, but maybe there was some miscommunication and 85 mil was spent on R&D, production, marketing, ect. All the logistics needed to sucessuflly design, produce and market somthing like that i could see costing that much. Plus making all new shirts and hats for fanboys is going to cost a shit heap.

OK, I can see it if that was the cost for an entire facility, but that facility had better be HUGE.

That would be very distracting during a fire fight. Would have to be smart enough to know when to apply hand job. Maybe all the money went into the AI for that.

Can't. Stop. Laughing.

Re: New Glock Rifle?

The "Glock rifle" rumor resurfaces periodically so I'm immediately skeptical. And Glock is a sphinx. I'm inclined to believe a Glock armorer has access to insider information like the owner of the local Shell station is privy to the inner workings of the Saudi royal family.

I was there as well. The $85m isn't exactly accurate. I have no doubt Glock wants to tap into the rifle market. The characteristics of said rifle are what could be expected of a Glock rifle....polymer, light weight, etc. I really don't care to repeat what (little) was said as it is not my place to speculate on Glock's intentions.

And while this is not a knock on the instructors by any means, but the guys running armorer courses are also salesmen. Some pimp and tout their product harder than others. I have yet to go to a manufacturer hosted armorer course that didn't share a few "secrets" and give you a little teaser of things to come.

Re: New Glock Rifle?

I have a buddy that was in Glock LE district sales and he would groan if anyone mentioned a rifle.Be neat if they did but unlikely given the company's attitude regarding Glock "perfection".I'm waiting on a Glock 1911 then maybe we can talk.I have heard about a plastic suppressor that falls to pieces at the pull of a tab for certain units or alphabet agencies.

That doesn't even sound right.

I mean that is the only way I would even think of buying one.

I said that as well once upon a time. I was forced to carry one, used it through various training courses for several thousand rounds, and shown the "how and why" of the internal workings before it earned my full respect. It is a tool and it certainly has its place...no more, no less.

Re: New Glock Rifle?

I always thought a "stiker" setup like glock would be an intresting idea for a rifle.

Example: A person could never state they had an accidental/negligent discharge. The rifle would not go "boom" with out a person pulling the trigger. You could probably drop the rifle, bang it, break it, and no discharge.
