Ya but realize their STANDARD 4-16 with a mildot retails for around 3200-3300 bucks new.

All the new stuff in this scope sounds about right for the best glass in the biz.

I might be looking at a home equity loan to get one of these!

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-28x56mm at S.H.O.T.

I got to play with it on Wednesday. Very, very impressive.

36mm rings required. And yes, the battery placement is strange. It'll probably hit the rail with standard height rings.

The German accented guy I spoke with says we won't see it available until next year.

Seems like on a lefty rig the bolt would hit it.

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-28x56mm at S.H.O.T.

I'm liking this scope. Going to be hard to justify $4k though, that's a lot of money...

Edit* - With S&B's new pricing, it might not be too hard to justify. We'll have to see the price of the 3-20 PMII when (or if) it ever comes out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the 56mm objective require at least medium height rings anyways? Even if the battery compartment wasn't there, I don't think you would be able to get away with low rings.

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-28x56mm at S.H.O.T.

This scope is designed for military users, on modern chassis long range rifles. The scope must be mounted relatively high because of the 34 mm main tube and 56 mm objective, AND to align correctly with the forward mounted NV scope on the forward rail.

This type of battery has a lot more usable life and stability at very low temperatures.

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-28x56mm at S.H.O.T.

Seriously....I don't get the issues with the pricing. Look at their current line of scopes.....this is inline with them.

Cool, so we should be able to get one before the S&B 3-20 comes out??

Excellent!!

And I really like those new double turn CCW knobs...very nice.

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-28x56mm at S.H.O.T.

Yeah, that thing was sick. Amazingly clear. the battery compartment is not an issue like you guys think it is. Its very short and kind of looks strange at first. The only thing is that they had it mounted to a fake stock, so I really didn't get a good feel for the weight. I forgot to get literature. Anybody got specs on weight?

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-28x56mm at S.H.O.T.

DAMN IT!!!!

I was just bitching about the power and ret yesterday.

I thought I was about done with scopes... Guess it never ends!

Well I mean the official list.

I might have a picture on my phone of that very scope that I've had since October. Being Hensoldt's #1 customer has its perks

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-26x56mm at S.H.O.T.

Well the reticle is better than previous ones I've seen offered. I don't care for dot on anything other than a red dot.

36 Mils of adjustment from Zero is nice, as is the turret and compact design. Hmmmm. Well...there's a year to wait and for price to go up another grand or so. LOL

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-26x56mm at S.H.O.T.

Yeah, I'm back from SHOT too. Zeiss is nice but I thought Schmidt rules, but now, we're gonna have some doubts....

I handled and examined the new Hensholdt at SHOT at every opportunity (at both the Zeiss and AI booths). The one year projection for consumer market is accurate according to their reps. Also, their representatives were more than aware (through subtle clues) they must meet and beat the Schmidt 5/25 market share to fully succeed with this offering.

The scope is superlative although one cannot tell too much from looking through scopes in the Venetian/Pallizo convention halls at stuff 100 yards away. However, from the standpoint of eyebox "forgiveness", it is at or above the what one experiences with the 4-15 Hensholdt. It is very nice to climb, behind the gun, quick, and be instant on with edge to edge clarity to target, and this scope will do that, easy.

Interesting enough, the Zeiss representatives did not not rule out the scope to be offered in other reticle options than that displayed. We discussed the variations and differences between schmidt p4f, gdmr g2, gen2 xr, and horus various, and it was clear from the designated representative they are aware of the shortcomings of prior 4-15 mildot genre and some emphasis would be applied towards variety in reticles.

With the 36mm tube, few if any vendors exist to accommodate that scope and Zeiss Hensholdt will undoubtedly rely on the secondary market to satisfy the users needs. It was somewhat disappointing the hear from the representative little indication of neurons fired at the issue of those of us who prefer our scopes mounted to AI's based on the dovetail mount. Small thing really though.

This scope will kick ass as long as they provide or create a modern reticle given today's state of the art. If you're worried about the $4000 projected price tag, this scope is not for you. If you are among those who realize that most of the money spent on this pursuit is in fact not on equipment, that price differential is the least of your worries.

Cheers.

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-28x56mm at S.H.O.T.

haha no kidding!

well at least USO introduced a 1-8 and it's ready.

Does anything at SHOT come out within a month of the show, or is this all hype? </div></div>

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-28x56mm at S.H.O.T.

I find it odd that S&B is raising prices by 12%, presumably in US dollars, at the same time the euro is taking a dive. I would think that the relatively stronger dollar would offset any price increase in euros. I feel lucky to have the scopes I really need already in hand and am not jonesing for the new Hensoldt or S&B. If European bank problems come to a head this year, all bets on pricing will be "off" if the euro is revalued.

Re: New Hensoldt 3.5-28x56mm at S.H.O.T.

Bumping this again.

Was at a Norwegian Outdoors trade show and asked Carl Zeiss Norway about the new Henny.
According to them, its expected to be available late spring/early summer here in Europe.
One problem recently, have been that apparently quite a few weapons and accessories from Germany have turned up on the wrong side in Syria so the germans stopped civilian sales of a lot of such products. Zeiss Norway couldn't even get some scopes for LE agencies.....

Anyway, the new Henny wil be available with a standard zeiss mil dot reticle in Europe. The US would get a few more specials like probably a Horus or similar.

But more surprisingly are the fact that Zeiss is moving away from FFP reticles. Their new hunting series are now exclusively SFP, and only hensoldts are available in FFP. But they apparently considered only making the new scope in SFP only....
