Rifle Scopes New Meopta Scope - Optika6

For sure...i am glad the horse shoe & thick side bars are there for use @ 3X.

If memory serves me correct everything lights up other than the side bars and horseshoe.
I will try to snap a picture of it later when i am home tonight.

FYI; when i was jacking with it this morning; the illumination is only bright enough to use during low light.

Interesting. My original intent was to only illuminate the center dot/hash arrangement, not the whole tree. Ultimately, it is up to them. On scopes like this, I really like to have a small illuminate portion.

I would have preferred the outer horizontal stadia was thinner, I realize that is higher mag (12x) but looks like a brick wall that will only get thicker up to 18x. Would be curious to see a 3x and 18x pic if you have the opportunity unicron, thank you for posting those. For a 3-18 I am really liking this, maybe even for my AR... Biggest question is how does glass compare to PST II and will the turrets track true and stay true.

I understand the circle on a 1-6, or 2-10, etc. It just doesn’t make sense to me on a 3-18 with tall turrets. I hope you guys do like it, but I will pass. It looks like a great product at the price point!

That's strange. Only the center cross is illuminated on my 5-30 and it's daylight bright except in very bright sun.

Also, how much adjustment does your 3-18 have? The 5-30 is advertised as having 32 MILS on the website but mine only has around 28 even without the zero stop being set. That's not bad at all, but it is slightly less than what is specified on their site. The 3-18 and 4.5 - 27 are advertised at 24-25 MIL so hopefully they have at least that much usable adjustment.

Is the 5-30 indeed 34mm? I had someone tell me the website was wrong and it was 30mm. Albeit they had something to gain by me not buying an Optika6 at the time.

Is this is the reticle on your 5-30? Where did you order from? I much prefer this to the circled outline from the posts above (obviously the 3-18 fills a different purpose than the 5-30). The info and multitude of listings/reticles from retailer to retailer is making it difficult to find this exact combo.

If you want this MRAD reticle in the 5-30x56, 34mm tube, you need item# 653608. This is Meopta's factory item#.

Much appreciated, I swept Meopta's site and couldn't find any SKU's.

To demonstrate my point, Googling "Meopta 653608", the first 2 results I get are EuroOptic.com and SportOptics.com and both display the wrong reticle...although I'm hopeful that I'd still actually receive the correct scope, just have to be sure.

Thanks!

I bought my 5-30 from one of the above shops and it came with the correct reticle (the one you posted a few posts up)

The Picture of MRAD 1 RD on the website only shows the center dot/hash illuminated. @unicron , are you positive?

The center portion being the only illuminated part was my intention.

Make sense to me.

I'd personally prefer an option on the 3-18 for a non-circle version (MRAD RD as opposed to MRAD 1 RD) for a .22 Bolt Action Trainer, but, the Circle isn't really a deal breaker. I'd at least like confirmation on what all illuminates though since it's a bit in doubt at the moment.

I was wrong...only cross hairs are really illuminated (3-18). The rest of the reticle has a faint red backlight glow to it. Attached is the illumination set on level 5 of 6, and @ 12X.
I have 25 MIL of adjustment; without touching the zero stop yet. I assume the default position of the zero stop is disabled.

Could you show some more pics of the reticle at max and min power?

Do you have any similar scopes (PST G2 etc) that you can review it against?

attached are 3X and 18X...unfortunately you need those fat bars and circle @ 3X.

I have a 5-25 PST G2 that i will bring to the range with me on Monday. will do my best to try and compare....thinking of setting them both at ~ 18X and see what differences there are.

That's more like it.

It is not uncommon to have some reflections if the reticle illumination is on high setting.

I really like that reticle for the 3-18 power scope. I have the similar reticle in my LRHSi and it is great for a hunting scope that may see use at the lowest power. I like to call it the circle of death. I saw someone else use that terminology and adopted it.

Personally, it doesn’t cause any noticeable issue for me when I’m using higher power and does provide a quick reference point as to where 3 mils is on the fly.

I don't mind the horseshoe because I like something that might be usable at low power similar to what Lash mentions above about the G2H reticle in the LRHSi; however, what I do not like are the gaps from the center cross to the outer stadia line beyond the horseshoe, that is a lot of space missing for those of us who like to hold for wind, I would have preferred dots or something in there for reference.

I considered that, but ended up not putting them in.

Together with the circle, it was busier than I like.

i love the horseshoe...i find it very easy and quick to acquire a target much like my old CMR scope on the AR platform.... and the thoughtfully calculated dimensions of the horseshoe are a real plus.... but i do wish the cross would continue straight through (no gap).

picky i know, i can't imagine how difficult it must be to design the perfect one size fits all reticle.

thank you for sharing all of your experience, learning a lot

hoping perhaps one day to be able to afford something like this

The choice of 3mrad for the circle is not an accident. The inside is right around 10 inches at 100 yards and 20 inches at 200 yards.

If shooting at a plate of known size or at an animal you can have a very quick and rough sanity check using the circle.

ILya

So is the diameter of the inside area of the circle 2Mils? And then 3 Mils from end of Left Crosshair to Beginning of Right Crosshair?

I understand, unfortunately those gaps are right where a lot of wind holds happen for me, my personal preference is to not have a huge gap from center dot out, this bugged me on the March FML-1 as well, it was too much distance and leaves me to figuring out, am I holding at .7 or .6 or .8?

Then the 5-30x56 with MRAD is for you.

Thanks, can definitely see how this reticle is suited to the particular use of a FFP hunting scope.

Very much looking forward to the PST comparasion.

I was just about to reply - looks like 2 MRAD to me. Really badly looks like 2.

Now that I am back at my computer...

I used a 3mrad circle on another reticle and it all got messed up in my head. Too many design going on at the same time.

I pulled up the original drawing I gave Meopta and the circle has inner diameter of 2 mrad and line thickness of 0.2 mrad, so the outer diameter is 2.4 mrad.

Looking at 308ftWIN's pictures, it looks like they kept most things from my drawing, but they made the tree 12mrad tall (I kept it at 8 mrad in this reticle) and added that horizontal ranging bar above the circle.

The opening at the bottom of the circle is 1 mrad, so you have +/- 0.5 mrad holds.

Not for the size I'm looking for unfortunately.

With this project, my plan was to design three reticles:

1) Modern precision reticle which is what MRAD is with 0.2 holds and 12 mrad tree.
2) Crossover reticle with high visibility features for ease of use on low power.
3) FFP LPVO reticle with a very abbreviated tree and high visbility features. That's MRAD2 and that one has a 3 mrad circle with 0.3 mrad line thickness.

In principle, if a particular reticle design is successful and enough people voice their opinion, Meopta can put any of the reticles into any of their scopes.

For example, if MRAD does well for them, I hope to see it in other scopes eventually.

My designs are not proprietary to them, but with these reticles they have my permission to use them in any of their products.

I wouldn't hold my breath with DVOR, three promised dates have come and gone for me. Hopefully soon though.
The dreadful wait is finally over! The mid-October delivery they quoted me on Monday somehow got there the next day.... I received an email yesterday saying my backordered item was now in stock, but I had to get a hold of them within 14 days to let them know I still wanted it otherwise they would cancel my order. Seems like a strange policy, but whatever, called them up and the CS rep said it'd ship soon. Got tracking info this evening

Thank you for your hard work.

I like that they went to 12 MRAD - I can use those extra few.

I would have liked 10mrad in the LPVO just to never dial.

Everyone wants something a little different. I was hoping to get something that will be acceptable to a large enough number of people, but I do appreciate all the feedback. That helps me with the next design.

I bought the 5-30 and overall it looks great. Very solid, nice reticle nice turrets, I have not mounted it yet. Just wondering how it will hold up banging it on props. Time will tell.

Have any experience with the Ares ETR? If so, care to offer up a comparison?

Thanks!

I got the same notification on the 25th as well, we will see. I have a tracking link from Fedex but when I click it there is nothing there. It will get here when it gets here I guess.
