New officially licencened 65 Mustang

Re: New officially licencened 65 Mustang

Wow. I rebuildt a '68 back in college after paying $1k for a barn kept fixer-upper. You could rebuild from a frame with aftermarket parts back then, but the new shell would be a great start. Glad I don't have the money...

Re: New officially licencened 65 Mustang

It's cool, but just the stamped shell. So it's not rolling chassis, no interior, just body. You'd have to source all the rest. And you might just buy a whole one for the time and cost of building it.

Re: New officially licencened 65 Mustang

The advantage is the modern rustproofing, & welding. no way You could build on an original chassis for as little money, & end up with as solid of a finished product. Those 65s were just too flimsy. You could build one, but it would cost twice as muck, & You would end up replacing every stamped part.

The company that sells these were already selling the later models up to 1970....

That is pretty awesome. My great uncle has a original 64 1/2. I've been trying to buy it from him since I was 15. That thing is mint, original radio, original top. Hell it even has the original factory floormats.

Motors that will fit original 'Stang's:
289/302(OEM motors)
5.0(old and new version)
351 Windsor/Any upgraded ci to 427ci as well
Big Block(FE,Boss, etc) Cut the wheelwells and fab your motor mounts

Trans:
OEM Top Loaders(I like mine good), and 4 Speeds or(ack!) 3 Speeds
Any new or older 5 Speed, or TKO or other type 6 Speed(but be ready to cut the tunnel, and fab stuff as well or pay a lot)

Rear Ends:
There are all from straight axle 9" to lay down shock indies with inside brakes, all will work because they are made to retro fit original early stangs

Front Ends:
See Rear Ends, pick up a Mustang magazine or a Hot Rodding and see what you can get, they are all made for early stangs

Fender well fitsments:
OEM you can go to 225 on a 17, or work in a 245 on a 17
Flares are avaialable from Meir, and other Nor-Cal, and Vegas based Stang houses. 265's, 285's or as large as you dare to cut to fit

Me, I like the idea of crossing old school Trans Am and Can Am with a 351/427ci, a Top Loader(Mine is NASCAR tagged) and a gear venders overdrive on a 4:56 tail...can ya say, LTR BCH!(my racing plate from Forza 3/4)
