TNVC is very happy to announce the Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

RFR_1a.jpg

The patented RFR (Re-Focus Ring) is a revolutionary new night vision accessory available exclusively from TNVC. Manufactured by STS, it solves one of the biggest frustrations faced by night vision operators: having to adjust the device’s focus to view close-in objects. The RFR universally adapts to most issued night vision goggles and provides an instant close focus of 18” when flipped down in front of the objective lens. This gives the operator the ability to instantly re-focus his/her night vision goggle to close range and back. No more fumbling with re-focusing night vision goggles for close work. A quick flip of the RFR allows the operator to toggle back and forth while keeping his/her primary hand on the weapon. The RFR has been in service with special operations units for years.

The RFR is one of the most simplistic, yet revolutionary accessories for night vision goggles. Standard baseline focus of NODs is from about 15’ out. Anything closer starts to get progressively more blurry. Traditionally, the operator needed to manually refocus the objective and diopter or replace the objective lens cap on the goggle to get a close focus. This exercise often requires two hands and lots of fumbling in the dark. The RFR requires a half second to flip up or down, allowing the operator to refocus on the fly. This is a must-have accessory for tasks such as map-reading, administering first aid, etc. The list is endless. The RFR is a universal device that mounts to most popular and issued night vision goggles.

Guys, we can't say enough about the RFR. It opens up a whole new level of performance from your night vision goggles. The uses are endless:

-Read a map (hell, read anything)
-Administer First Aid
-Start an IV
-Secure a Prisoner/Suspect
-Clear a Type 4 Malfunction
-Operate Your Radio
-Sensitive Site Exploitation

We could go on, but you get the idea.

The RFR is exclusively available from TNVC. Shipping now

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Does that flip lens system, ring-mount connect around outside of your sacrificial lens cover ?

Or is it all-in-one unit with it's own sacrificial Lens cover that mounts around the Obj. ?
.

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

It attaches directly to the Objective lens housing and is not used in conjunction with the Sacrificial lens.

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Install is To easy,If you want to take it off and throw a Cap on for storage no problem,Its fast as the Day cap to take off.

I can see this working out well,Will ring here out In the next few Nights when I go do my stuff.will keep ya posted..

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Well it works,If you need to read a Map to NAV its a must have,I am worried that My rough nature it may not hand with me for long ? ...
But 99% of the guys buying this dont treat there stuff like I do,I give it hell like my boots...

will get back and post after the weekend, Going 6 mile swamp/mountain outing to find a large Kitty Kat,I have a NAVE MAP with cave Cord's and such this should come in handy..

VIC/CLASKY what are the rubber bands for ? I hope some way to hold it on during the brush and fence crossings,I looked for this thing an hour after I droped it at the fence..
whistle.gif
I may be tarded,But I dont see how the bands work ?

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Well just how tight does it fit?
I wouldn't be removing it at all out in use.

And how is it for navigating through brush, limbs, and so forth?
And climbing, tree, rock face, dirt hills? Like to see where I put my hand without lighting up the night with a flashlight, even a low power red one can be visible for quite a ways.
ASM1, you'll probably be able to give us a good run down on all these points after your evening recon.

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Edwin Not realy Tight,I lost it at the fence when I fliped it out of the way,It came off and I didnt know it,I asume these Rubber bands do something ?
the Focus distance is set at about 18",so if its 18" away its Tits,Otherwise move your head back and forth to find that distance..
I have used a Butler creek with a Pin hole in it that did realy good at multiple distance for close focus,But It works not as well in a dark eria as the RFR..

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Yep, I've gone the Butler Creek with pin hole route, but those damn caps don't take well to constant manipulation (still haven't replaced the PVS-22 eye cap!) and it broke, twice. Went back to just using the mil cap, of course you already knew that (lost the last one!). Got it corded now!
How easy would it be to scratch the RFR? Could you just cord it? Looks like a big step up from the pin hole method, performance wise, and being a durable flip is the icing on the cake. Run all the numbers on this one, I'll be getting it (or not) on your rec. I'd flip the RFR when needed, but I don't always mount the pinhole cover, and I didn't use the Butler for fear of breakage half the time. But re-focusing every 33 sec isn't such a good option either.

It's aggravating with the PVS-14 caps, big believer in keeping the glass protected of course. And I use a Wilcox amber as well, the contribution to stealth there is significant.
But in all the years since 1973 with my first SLR, I've had good luck not screwing up unprotected glass, the old 58mm f1.4 Rokkor MC objective looks like the day it was made. Despite 100K miles hanging off my shoulder on a variety of old shovel/blockhead Hogs, as well as a couple of high speed 2 valve Ducks.
My old Leupold 3-9X40 scope from '85 (Valmet M-78 308) also has enduring glass as well, and certainly no special treatment there. So maybe lens protection isn't all it cracked up to be, but rather have it than not. And the RFR might be comparitively cheap, but not interested in destroying it the first few times out.

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Edwin ,By design its built to come off on impact or snags and Even if it did get a scratchI dout it would bother the focus..

I have that Kitty Cat I am going to try and pet up close this weekend and I will know how it fairs..

Yes, I will tether it before I Go..

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

I did bother to read the instructions from your photo, looks like it would be plenty tight, guess you couldn't have it dangling without screwing it up, except that in storage is the only time it'd be un-attached. Heck, I don't even have a PVS-14 case, hard or soft, usually it goes where-ever, utility pouch. Got to fix that
I like goats, but not like those sickos, strictly male hetero patriot 45/556/308/40 & 9 guy here with a little 7.62X39 on the side!

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

The rubber bands are used for different models of NV with slightly different objective lens housing dimensions. They can also be used to help secure a loose-fitting RFR to a unit. Some of the NVG's that the RFR is compatible with are non-standard and require a little more tension to fit.

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Sorry, gents...Was outta town. Chip beat me to it. A long time ago in the Marine circles they had a mis mash (I can believe it) of several different makers NOD's and no, not all the so-called Mil-Spec devices were the same dimensions. So much for Mil-Spec. :-( The thick rubber bands were used for these issues, but as ASM1 mentioned, it is purposely designed to come off upon snags and such since it attaches to the lens of the NOD itself.

We did beef up the ring thickness portion from the original to make it much stronger in colder environments.

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Hi Edwin, as for scratches I've had my unit for several years (the original) and it's scratched up pretty well. It would take something like a formidable deformation of the lens to effect the optical characteristics.

Now for you taking all those great pics, not sure how the camera would see it, but my older eyes seem to do ok!

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

No Kitty Cat,Maybe next outing if a Hurricane dont blow in..

The RFR does what it is adverised to do,It does work for fast 18" focus to read maps, work with gear or weapons,I did loose it a couple Times,I used one of the Rubber bands and it did help secure the Unit much better to my PVS14..
I am rough on gear and use my stuff in some bad place's and feel I will end Up loseing this if not teatherd.. Unless I would be naving I would leave it off,I use a 3x Lens for quick looks at distant things of Intrest and the RFR gets in the way of this..

Its a handy Tool to have and If you want something new and Cool to play with or need to look at things 18" away fast without messing up your normal focus this is for you..

Re: New Product - Re-Focus Ring (RFR)

Yes, but it will need the thick rubber bands for extra retention since the 9's have those ridges on the lens that do not allow much surface area like the 14 or 7 lens housings allow.

Vic,

Do you have a pic you could post of what this looks like on the 9s?
