Well, was looking around my local Cabela's, not intending to buy anything. After lurking on this site for the last few months, I thought I decided on looking for a 700P LTR to begin building up a bolt action rifle. Back to Cabela's. I was looking at the rifle rack and thought I saw a Rem 700 SPS Tac for $549 on clearance. Asked to see it and found it was a .223 and was indeed $549. Doing the math, I thought $549 SPS Tac, $40 SPS rebate from Remington, $10 Cabela's coupon I had would be just under $500 out the door. When looking it over, I noticed one of the front sight base screws looked larger than the others. Asked if they had another in .223 in back that hopefully had correct screws, and they did. Sold! I like the stock of the LTR and the parkerized finish better, but for $500 I couldn't pass it up.
Hosed it down with RemOil and all the brown cosmoline came off. Now to set it aside and order up an EGW one piece base and a set of TPS Rings. Also need to find a suitable scope for shooting out to 250 yds. To be continued...
