New Rifle 260 Remington

Hello, it's been awhile as I have been in Afghanistan for sometime and wanted to come back and say hi. I recently acquired a gentley used <100 rounds. The rifle is a trued rem 700 with a single stage timmney trigger, 8 twist 5r 26in 260rem chambered threaded heavy barrel, 20 moa rail, us optics level, atlas bipod, and acis 1.5 old style chassis with 5x mags and a pelican case. I chose 260 because it is the caliber I used to hunt over the years and I'm set up to reload for it. I do not have a scope for it but I have been considering either a Leupold mk5 5-25x56 or nf nsx 5.5-22x56. I'm not completely new to shooting but just getting back into it a lot more lately. I built a Grendel before I deployed and took it out to 600 yards before I left and decided to get a bolt action meant for precision shooting/ varminting instead of hunting.

260 Remington was my first deer rifle. Had another heavy barrel savage for targets while stationed at Benning. Great round for smaller stature females like myself. I couldn’t justify a Creedmoor as I am already set to reload for 260. Going to load up some left over 123gr smks to shoot it with a cheaper scope for the time being to play.

Nice looking rifle! You should have fun with that. I'm a fan of the .260 Rem, mainly because that's what I started to shoot long range with and I'm set up to reload for it.

I think there have been a couple NXS 5-25x for sale the last few days.

Nice rifle! I’m biased as I’ve many thousands of .260 rounds downrange. A few barrels worth. My favorite all around round.

I almost can’t believe that I’m building a 6.5 Creedmoor hunting rifle, but wanted my brother and I to both be using the same round for that.

Will do, gotta load some 123s I have in the bin. I'll group it with a cheap scope till I can get premium glass for it.

I am strongly considering the primary arms platnum 6-30x. I had a chance to do some comparison between an NXS, razor HD, and it seems a lot of scope for the money.

How reliable is the tracking and return to zero on the Primary Arms? Have you considered the XTR 2 by Burris?

I'll look into it. I'm going to a gun show in Gettysburg next week so hopefully I'll get to put my eyes through some decent glass. Someone PMd me and said about the Steiner p4xi 4-16x56. I have an acss hud/dmr on my AR10 308 and its ballistic reticle is spot on out to 500.

Have a 260 in both Tikka TAC and the CTR. Love 'em. What powder/primer do you use to drive your smks?

The PA is a Low OEM optic. It’s made by the same guys that make the NF ATACR. The PA is an excellent value that is tough as nails.

40gr of H4350 with my 123gr smk. A lighter load for now. I have to get a scope and then I'll work a ladder to find the best node. I do need to get my own chrony soon.
