New Rifle: Seekins Havak HIT

Had the same issue with mine the other day, then got home and realized when I swapped scope over i hand tightened 1 of the 4 bolts and got interrupted by 4 year old before torquing them properly. Haven’t had a chance to get back to the range with a tight mount.
And I can actually zoom in and see the one screw that I had tightened down while the others protrude..definitely felt like a dumbass

Reading this reminded me something I'd forgotten, one of those "almost a great group" pics was caused by me reached over the rifle with my off hand moved both the windage and elevatioin adjustment without realizing it. (Doh) Only noticed it after the second shot. I didn't remember that till just now, so that cheered me up a tiny bit. lol
It has capped turrets that turn easy, I need to break my old habits with this one.

Went out to a friends place and put the first rounds down the barrel of my HIT this am. I will be happy to end up around 2950 with this bullet. After another 100 rounds or so it should get there. Only shot at 100 today to get it on paper and see what my numbers were, plan to stretch it out further soon. Looks like the potential is there for a sub 1/2” gun. Other than the sighters they are all three shot groups. Considering that I picked a random powder charge and went with book OAL I’m pretty happy.

What height mount is that to accomodate a 56mm objective on that Razor? Looks like there might be a bit of room to get away with a little lower of a mount to get the scope axis closer to the barrel axis?

Trying to plan ahead a bit and figure out what height mounts may work before my Hit Pro arrives.

1.50" This scope is the Razor 3-18x50 though, not the 56.

How good is Seekins hit chassis compare to MDT ess or acc?
I haven't handled the MDT chassis in question but the hit chassis is fine. The hinge locks up tight and folds over the bolt seamlessly, there's the dust cover which is unique, and adjustments for length of pull and cheek weld are pretty easy. Good implementation of the bag rider so as not to create a snag point. It's about 4.2 lbs from memory. Only downside is the lack of arca integration without paying additional money, which isn't awful.

I'm sure this has been covered-- skimmed through a few pages but didn't notice an answer-- but could have easily skipped it. Will the Hit be offered in LA... or just SA for comps?

If you're running an RRS Anvil, they take Picatinny rails as well as arca. Just attach an MLOK pic rail on the bottom of the HIT in front of the mag well. They might take an extra second or two sometimes to lock down compared to arca, but they hold securely.

It balances no problem.

I am always cautious with promises of modularity, accessories, barrels ect. In the dozens of products over the last 20 years that made this claim only like one or two ever delivered. John Hancock rifles? FN Scar? Anything SIG? Remington ACR? ect ect ect ect.

Never having barrels in stock does the buyer no good and you would have been better of picking a popular action where you can get cheap and in stock shouldered prefits. Will bolt heads and spare parts be available? Fitment issues if one wants to change stocks with different mag latches?

To many people have been burnt waiting 1-2-5-10 years for the promises to materialize and they never do. Better to wait for the product to mature, especially if they end up doing some revisions which is very common with new products. Just some things to think about before getting to
Barrels can be spun from blanks, which would actually be the best choice. The other stuff really does matter. Now that I own one, I'll say everyone else's rifles are shit.

Was that the PRO version then? I have one on order in 6GT. Did switching mags improve feeding?

Yeah I did order the Hit Pro which comes with the upgraded Timney trigger and the fore end arca rail. Even the
Pro does not come with the NV bridge - it was extra. I also ordered the 6.5 PRC bolt and barrel.

Just got an AI AW mag to try this week and will see how it works this weekend.

Ended up deciding to try an AI-AW mag instead of a single stack Accurate Mag AICS.

No feeding issues now. Couldn’t get the PMAG to work at all.

Interesting timing. Just spent a while playing with my Magpuls trying to figure out just what's going on. Norma and ELD-Ms (6.5C) work okay most of the time with the 5 rounders, but the Berger VLDH's aren't a fan. When the base of the cartridge clears the feed lips, the case below it kicks the base up in the air and the tip of the bullet dives down and hits the chamber right in the shoulder and the bullet jams.

Both my 5 rounders do this. My 10 rounder does not. It feeds smooth and straight into the chamber.

I've seen people say this before about their 5's vs 10's. When I hold them side by side with a round in them, I swear I can see more of the case in the 5's. Which would make sense with them coming out of the lips sooner. I could just use the 10, but don't really want to deal with that big honking thing sticking out of it all the time. Been trying to decide which mag to order now.

Interesting - I only tried the 5rd PMAG that came with the gun - not the 10, but the 5 with 6CM did not work no matter what.

Well I’ll be. I had the 10 round Magpul mag before I even had this rifle, but never used it. I mean I tried it with dummy rounds the other day but never shot with it till today. Shot 50 plus rounds, mostly 3 and 4 shot groups trying different things and fiddling with stuff. Because in reality that’s mostly what I bought it for, fiddling and trying stuff. It was like a totally different rifle, so smooth, no hiccups. All Berger 130gr VLD Hunt’s, which the 5 round mags really didn’t like at all. I shot 16 different groups and all of them were pretty damn good. Like always, some real nice, some almost real nice, some just okay. But across the range of loads I tried, all shot well and no “What the hell happened there?” shots. Don’t know if it was just better shooting because of less fussing with it, or because of better, straighter, consistent OAL cartridges getting into the chamber from NOT getting jammed in the shoulder. All in all it shot better today.

Im so happy seeing these rifles more and more. They really excite me with their design and price point. Id love one with a 223 and 6.5CM barrel set. A trainer and precision rig all in one.

Had my first misfire yesterday. Break the shot and “click”. Stupid rifle won’t even fire rounds with no primer. Jeeze.

If anyone from Seekins still keeps an eye on this thread, I would suggest contracting with a manufacturer and selling stick on pads cut to shape for the cheek riser. The carbon fiber is beautiful, but it was eating me up. Something about the shape of my face I guess, because every day after shooting it my cheek bone area hurt. I bought some stick on comb pads and cut them to something that sort of works and put it on. Problem solved, it's doing the job, but it’s ugly. Cutting that stuff smooth and even isn’t easy. Screwed two up trying get it right. Finally had to settle for “well it’s not totally awful.” But pre cut the right shape would be the berries.

Anybody look into swapping out the bolt knob yet? Would like to replace it with something chonkier but still be able to fold. I unscrewed it with an allen wrench, but it seems like the bolt handle itself has a male screw rather than the female threads on most aftermarket bolts.

Does anyone know what the bolt coating is? Here's a couple of pix showing the wear after 150 rounds of 308. It doesn't appear to last very long, whatever it is. Also, anybody know what the bolt and action are made of? It's not really spelled out anywhere on the Seekins site.

Mine looks identical.

Anybody have a weight of the action and chassis (no barrel)? Trying to convince myself I could throw a CF barrel on for lighter weight hunting rig.

Orrrrrrrrr...Seekins could just use the new HIT action in a PH2 stock and satisfy us lightweight hunters with cartridge ADHD.

Sure thing. My chassis is 4.4 lbs. Action is 2.6 lbs. My rifle was a bit over the advertised weight at 12 lbs even for the non-pro variant. I was doing the same math to see about using it for field events.

Oh, and +1 for Seekins customer service.

I must have been using the wrong size Allen wrench doing magazine height adjustments and I stripped out the screw head. I emailed about getting a replacement screw, they got back to me in 20 minutes saying they would send me a whole assembly. A couple days later I had a brand new latch assembly in hand.

As far as the bolt wear goes, did you clean / lubricate it? I know the factory lube/protectant that mine had on it when I got it was some sticky, tacky (I don't want to say "gritty" put it sure wasn't slippery) feeling stuff.

This is the extent of my bolt wear after 681 rounds and lord knows how many additional cycles.

It's great hearing about a company with such stellar CS. That bolt looks perfectly fine to me.

Look what I spied:

You had my attention, Now you have my curiosity.

I’ve read almost all of the reviews, as I didn’t want to ask a question that had been answered, but can the rear bag rider be removed and a monopod be installed? Didn’t know if there was a way to install a small rail section so I could add a monopod? Haven’t bought one yet but strongly considering ordering one. Sold my axmc a few months back and I love the fact that this thing has the ability to quickly swap barrels.

so, what is the correct Allen for the mag latch screw? Thanks

Got my Havak Hit Pro a few days ago and too it to the indoor range to sight it in, first 30 rounds down the pipe and here are my thoughts. Factory Norma Golden Target Match 143 grain ammo, box showed 2723 fps and I measured 2726 with a SD of 10. Pretty good for factory ammo. Bolt was a bit gritty but has only been cycled about 100 times (mostly dry firing). Hopefully this will smooth out some with use. The magazine, Magpul AICS 5rd, has to be aligned perfectly to get it into the mag well. Not new to shooting, but my first real time behind a quality PRS type bolt action and these are probably the best groups I have shot. Group on left was shot at 10x and on the right at 20x magnification.

Hey everyone, been a bit but I should be on here a little more if ya have questions. We got a bunch of Magpul mags that only feed 308 well so if you got one that doesn’t work hit me up and I’ll send you a MDT metal/polymer mag that we’re shipping with now.
Bolt coating is melonite and we are definitely ramping up production on all rifles. Added almost 35,000 sqft and we’re rolling :)
Thanks for all the positive coments! Glad you’re enjoying the Hits! Any accessories you wanna see let me know we’re ready to add some!

It is great to see the owner of the company keeping up with posts here! I really like the HIT. Is there any potential for a shorter barreled version coming to market? Something along the lines of a 16/18" 308 designed to be light and handy like a Sig Cross. That would be phenomenal!
