New RWS R Plus Long Range ammo

I just read that RWS have launched a new ammo called "RWS R Plus Long Range". 43 grain bullet with a muzzle velocity of 355m/s. From the photo, the heel of the bullet has a little cone shape inside it and the nose seems to have a semi-flat nose look to it. There's no info on their website at time of posting this, I got the info from the all4shooters.com website

This is a rumor but it was started overseas and it would not surprise me if it turns out to be true as RWS has not and is not very popular with benchrest shooters and they are the shooters that are big into lot testing!

Non-existent? RWS is made by Ruag Ammotec and they make everything except the propellant and the cardboard packaging in-house at the Fürth production site in Germany from raw materials. I think it's safe to say that RWS has always been 3rd behind Lapua and Eley with 50yd/meters benchrest shooters!

We should have some come mid summer if they fulfill the order. The numbers they sent us look promising, but it’s hard to say until it’s hear and in the wild.

I’m not sure where you got that info from, but since 2018 we’ve been getting 4 40ft containers of RWS from them a year. It’s typically gone when the next one arrives.

I'm looking forward to testing this, I'm wondering if the delays are about it not meeting expectations?

This is a delay as long as the new metal Vudoo mags, the demand is there. You'd think they want this to hit the street.

MGW had some of the Norma labeled rounds at $9.99 a box, but it only lasted a short time. I managed to get a brick ordered 5PM Christmas day, next morning it was gone. After it arrives, weather permitting, I will try it out.

Why? Price per cartridge indicates it is not RWS's best 22lr.
It's a gimmick cartridge to pry into the wallets of optimists.
If it was capable of consistent accuracy at extended range,
then results at 50 yards would be equal to a good box of R50.
I just can't see that happening.

I am thinking the same thing, but for $10. a box I'm willing to give it a try.

At $4. a box, Tac performs better than it should.

If these 5 shot groups are measured in usual way (center to center holes), than the results are pretty bad at 50 m. Considering CZ 547 and some well known match ammo being used

There's my problem. Small sample sizes lead to incorrect conclusions.
I'd want to see 10 five shot groups, across a chronograph,
including conditions and aggregate 50 shot group size .
Then I want to see it repeated a couple more times.
Minimize the possibility of a statistical fluke.
No random acts of accuracy, no averaging.
Why? Averaging hides problems.

I’d be curious Where you’ve seen cost? It’s a completely different bullet design.

Price was on European ammo sites.
Nothing available on this side of the Atlantic.
With Norma selling the relabeled cartridge at 10 bucks a box,
basically half the price of R50, I don't have a positive outlook.
If the stuff was as magic as claimed, the demand would kick the price higher than X-Act.

I had hopes for Lapua Long and Super Long range also.
Ended up being just CenterX in a box with fancy graphics.
4 boxes sent at 100 and 200 yards didn't impress me.

Change shape or labeling, you still have to produce uniformly well made cartridges
and have extremely tight muzzle velocities, or you end up with vertical spread
and odd strays/outliers. That's the difficult part with mass produced rimfire ammo

As far I understood, new design of that bullet is trying to mimic effect of boat tail which reduces drag in subsonic region. So, in theory it should offer advantage for very long range. Problem in the article is that it (deliberately?) makes other well-known match ammo brands like CenterX and Eley match bad at short range from CZ 457 (indoors!). Average 5 shot group size about 1.5 MOA at 50 m? WTF... Cheap bulk ammo can do that

Midwest had the Norma version for $10 and Bulletcentral listed it at $12 until this week and doubled the price for the one remaining box L O L, no one is paying $24 for it.

Regardless of test data, in the end all that matters to me is how does it shoot in my rifle.

I hear ya' M.

I don't subscribe to rifle preference.
I found that well made cartridges with tight muzzle velocities
will produce the best results from all my rifles.
Any variations in results are due to differences in cartridges, or conditions.
No two cartridges are identical, so no two results will be identical.
Shoot large samples and results will be very similar.
Base y'er conclusions on small samples and normal cartridge variations
will cause you to think it's y'er rifle, not the cartridges.
Random acts of accuracy happen, doesn't mean the rifle has a preference.
