So I got the call from my dealer and everything is good to go. I will be picking up my 30P-1 at lunch today. Is there anything special I need to do when screwing this thing on for the first time? I had two rifles threaded so far. This is the standard 5/8-24 thread.

I never called to bother the ATF to find out my status, but my check was sent on 4/12/12 and cashed on 4/16/12.

Re: New Suppressor Help

Yeah it will come with a little pamphlet with everything you need to know but I would say that the most important thing is after you get it threaded on, pull the bolt and look down the bore to make sure the can is on straight so your first round isn't a baffle strike. You want to see a perfect circle. If you see anything different then you might want to get your thread job checked cause the can is not lined up with the bore.

Re: New Suppressor Help

I've always used teflon plumber's tape on my threaded cans. wrap about a 3" piece around the threads and torque the can down hand tight (with stock between knees, gun unloaded - of course - wrap both hands around the can and put your back into it). Don't know which dealer suggested this way back, but it's always worked well for me, threads are sealed and protected, and the cans don't come loose until I want them to.

Re: New Suppressor Help

I asked Zak Smith (TBAC) the same question on 11/16/11.

Here was his response:

Just follow the instructions included with the suppressor! There's nothing too complicated. When screwing it on a new barrel for the first time, take extra precautions to avoid seizing the threads if the muzzle was cut oversized. If specific questions come up you can always call or email us as well.

The 30P-1 I used has worked great ever since I picked it up from the dealer. The guys at Thunder Beast Arms Corporation are great!

Re: New Suppressor Help

This should go without saying but sometimes our ability to apply reason diminishes when we're giggling like a boy on Christmas day over our new suppresor, but I would advise to clean up the threading with some cleaning solution and then to apply a light coat of gun oil to ensure that it threads on smoothly.

Re: New Suppressor Help

I got a chance to go out this evening and try her out. Having not shot a suppressed rifle or been around one, I didn't know what to expect. Needless to say I am hooked. I shot my Savage .223 first and had a huge smile after the first squeeze of the trigger. Obviously there was still a crack, but the noise was more along the lines of a .17 HMR or .22. Not that there was much recoil to begin with, but I would say it made it feel like a high power pellet gun. It was so cool to pull the trigger and actually hear the bullet hit the target. I did have some shift downward of about 1.5 inches. If anything, I would say that my groups were tighter with the suppressor.

I next screwed her on my 6.5X47. Exact same results across the board. This thing is badass and makes shooting much more enjoyable. I am sure the ranch next door will appreciate the suppressor as well.

Let's not be so deflective with the new guy... you were there at one point.

It's been said but put a couple dabs of anti seize grease on the rifles threads. Then carefully seat the suppressor on the threads. Give it a backwards turn then go in the correct direction to begin seating the can on the rifle threading. It should go right on smoothly if your threading was done properly.

MAKE SURE you take the bolt out of the gun and look at a white wall, if you see clear tube fire away. If you can see any part of shadowing, do NOT fire.
