I see this whole “you have to wear your earring protection, whether you have a suppressor or not” argument a lot
Yet nobody criticizes the guy who doesn’t double up his earplugs with muffs on top
Your ears only care about decibels (sound pressure level)
The question is, what decibel level is safe?
I strongly suspect that the decibels of a braked 338LM at the ear with hearing protection on is greater than my 308 suppressed without hearing protection on
But I would like to see a comprehensive research study or analysis about this issue
