New to the 22lr game. Just picked up a 40x w/ kreiger bbl. So far ive shot what i had on hand. Some Wolf target, federal champion, and generic 22lr ammo. The wolf shot really well at 50yds, one ragged hole, and opened up at 100yds. The other ammo dident shoot well at all.

What ammo are you using for your trainers, and what kind of groups should i expect at 100yds. ?

I'm using Wolf Match target right now and getting great results with it but nothing even comes close to the Eley in my rifle. It actually made me look like a good shot while I was testing it

But until I become more proficient I will be sticking with Wolf MT. It shoots great through almost anybody's rifle and is only $5 a box compared to double that for the Eley Match and Target.
I don't group very consistently at 100 yards with a 22lr

but I am getting about 1.5"-2" groups if it helps.

I shoot Eley Match... but then I found some Federal Gold Medal <span style="text-decoration: underline">Ultra</span> Match this weekend... that stuff shoot VERY nice. 5 targets (one page) all sub-MOA at 100... dammit. That stuff is expensive...

I'm borrowing one at the moment to shoot at the OTC in Colorado Springs. It'll put 60 consecutive shots into the 3/8" ten ring with Eley Target at 50m. I, on the other hand, tend to drop a few shots and shoot some 9's instead. It's hard to keep concentration for a 60 shot string. The rifle is capable, though.

I have a stash of the more expensive Eley ammo to try but haven't bothered since it shoots so well with this (relatively) inexpensive stuff.

Got a chance to shoot again Saturday... windy day shooting golf balls suspended on a string at 100 yds. I hate this Ultra Match! Why? Because it is going to cost me $19 a freakin' box!!!

My 40X likes Wolf Match Target. The best I have shot at 100yds was a 10shot group you could cover with a nickel. I havent had the chance to really stretch it out further, but I have hit a 8" gong at 220yds repeatedly, until the wind picked up a bit.

for the money the wolf match extra is the best for me there is a very slight difference towards the eley match (red Box) i think which is about twice as expensive and almost like centerfire ammo. the eley is slightly better like 1-2/10 minute which is consistent but not worth the difference in the price for my purposes. both are still sub moa and 50 yd groups from prone bipod are always easily covered by a dime.

I put 6 rounds of Lapua Midas+ into a ~1/4" cluster at 100 yards one day. The other 4 shots in the string opened the group to around an inch (shooter error.) Wolf ME, Eley Team and Lapua Center X have all been pretty consistent performers. I did find that my 40X doesn't like Federal Ultra Match.
