Just joined gentlemen. Looking forward to increasing my skill set and knowledge here. Finally convinced Household 6 to authorize a purchase of a Rock River Arms LAR-8. I will pick it up this afternoon. Unfortunately I will have to save for a while longer to get some great glass on her so I only have a aimpoint clone to drop in her for now. Question: I have been looking online for magazines for the RRA. Takes the FAL mags. supposedly metric and inch. Does anyone know if the metric or inch work better? Plus a few years back you could barely give FAL mags away and now when I need them everyone is out of stock or asking an arm and a lef for them. Is anyone aware of where I can get some spare mags without getting ripped off? Appreciate the help.

Try here:

FAL Magazines

Which model LAR-8 did you get?

I've got the 16" mid-length and the 26" Varmint. Both have shot very well, sub-moa, and have been reliable, unless I use a suppressor.

16" midlength Standard Operator. didn't really want the vortex flash hider as I am partial to the old A2 birdcage but it came as a package. Everything I hear about the weapon is great. Can't wait to get it after work. couple of more hours. Thanks for the link. It seems like everyone I looked at was out of stock.

Thanks guys. I go pick her up after work. Very Stoked. I would like to get a leupold MkIV eventually or a ACOG 3x with the 308 compensator, but in good time. That SWFA looks very interesting.

Personally I like the Nightforce optics better than the Leupold MK4's.

I was out shooting my LAR-8's last night. Really enjoy them a lot! My Varmint model gives my GA Precision built bolt gun a run for its money! I'd really like to get one of the new 20" Varmint models, just to see how accurate they are.

I have multiple Magpul PRS's on 223's and 308's and I really like them. Once I get them set for LOP and cheek piece I leave them alone. The cheek piece normally stays down as I don't need a lot of rise for my eyes to see down the scope tube.

Got to the range. Love it. Feels like it was built for me. I carried an M4/203 in Iraq and I wish to hell I had a 7.62 like this. It just feels more solid, and shoots great. Definetly do not regret my purchase. It is lighter than the DPMS I was looking at. Now I just need to get a quality optic. Decided to go with a 3X9 since I am looking at engament ranges of 100m to 800m. I used to reload with my dad when I was a kid so I have been reviewing the reloading section here trying to gain more info so I don't waste a lot of money on reloading equipment. Either I don't remember much or reloading has come a long way in 20 years. There is so much on the market now it is overwhelming. I will attempt to get off my ass and post some pics.

Congrats. I just ordered an LAR-8
Standard Operator as my first AR-10. I've read good things and I too would like hear from current owners.

Welcome to the hide. Don't be to intimadated by all the products available to reloaders. My dad taught me to reloads and I inherited his equipment that he bought in the 1950s. That equipment is still capable of producing very accurate ammunition. Start out with a good single stage press, dies, scales and powder measurer. Splurge on a good power trimmer and go for it. While I own a Dillion all my 308 ammo is loaded on the RCBS Rockchucker Jr. I bought nearly forty years ago.
The 3-9 scope is an excellent choice and as I mentioned above the Super Sniper is my scope choice for semi auto 7.62 rifles. It offers high end features and quality at a midrange price because you are buying from the manufacture. My 7.62 AR is the LMT and I pulled the SOPMOD stock that came with it and put an A2 on it because I shoot prone and the SOPMOD levers got in the way. I would like to follow how this rifle is working out for you, accuracy, reliability etc. I've owned a RRA 5.56 for years and it is a keeper. Yes post some photos, please.
