Hey guys tons of great info here.
I have a Remington 700 varmint with a burris FFII 6x20x50.
I have a few ?s
The stock is crap on the rifle so what does everyone here recommend? Im on a tight budget, PSS take off??
also I like my burris scope but there arent any turrets that are easily accessible.
So advice or suggestions????
Remember Im rolling on a budget here
thanks

Re: Newbie looking for advise

The PSS stock would be good for a start.
As for optics, look at the Super Sniper models at SWFA or a Bushnell 4200 closeout from Natchez Shooting Supply.
Stoney Point made/makes "target knobs" that fit over existing turrents and provide readily accessible changes. Not recommending them, just saying. And they may not have them for your model.
But, just remember, sometimes getting out cheap is going to cost you extra.
What kind of distances are available for you at the range?

Re: Newbie looking for advise

its spelled "advice", advise is giving us tips lol.

As for scopes how much are you looking at spending, and at what range? Are you able to outshoot the stock yet? I know its tempting to get a full rig right away but it might be better to spend the money for the stock on the glass then practice with a shitty stock and then get a good stock and then you will adapt to shooting to a shitty stock to the new stock.

You said stock six times, and five were in one sentence hahah

Re: Newbie looking for advice

lol great guys.

with my hand loads I can do a 4shot 1in group at 100yds with a hornady 168gr. I know i dont like the flimsy stock, and the burris is clear but no target knobs. currently here in my back yard i can shoot approx 2ooyds. soon a farmer is allowing me and a few friends to shoot up to 800 on his land. I also have a friend shopping for a 700 tactical and hes wanting to be competitive. I know on my own crappy set up i can out shoot him, but if he puts a grand in glass and gets the rifle with a better stock I just may lose.
as for budget i will have to liquidate the burris and go for something else..... possibly 5 to 700 for a glass budget...
thanks for the input guys

Re: Newbie looking for advice

I have a 6500 and a 4200, both are good for their price. Vortex and SS are good choices in that price range also. Don't think you'll be dissapointed in them until you compare them to premium glass.

For the newb, those are Bushnell scopes, not trucks or bulldozers.

I would check the sample list on SWFA's web site. Sometimes you can be fast enough to snag a nice scope there.
Vortex Optics is coming on too. Don't overlook them.
Good luck!
Feel free to PM me if you like.

Re: Newbie looking for advice

If you like the scope you can send it back to Burris and they will install target turrets for $80. That gets you shooting with what you have for less then new glass. Save your money and get what you want down the road when you have the cash.

Re: Newbie looking for advice

Look glsmith, there's a saying "buy cheap; buy twice.". This is all too true. I speak from experience. There is a reason why good glass and stocks are so expensive. It's not because they look "tacticool," it's because they serve a purpose.....and they're damn good at it!

As you get into this and learn by experience, you will most likely upgrade as you go. It's really hard to jump in with both feet and buy an $8,000 rig. My suggestion is upgrade your gear when you can afford, or when you outgrow what you have.

Oh, and welcome to the hide!
