Good evening everyone. I have recently made the leap and bought a gII dpms sass. Now I am on the lookout for scopes/rings/the works. Budget for the scope is 3-500 at the moment as I would like to get out of this without my wife killing me. Any advice and help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I concur with the above. Spend the $300 now for a great and very usable SS.

Sell it down the road later for $225-$250 when you've saved enough for a sensible upgrade. It would likely make you happy for quite a while.

Or you could spend the $300 on a new set of balls and not worry about the wife.

Haha, just kidding. I think we all make that calculation at some point to enjoy our hobby. Seriously, another option is to look into some used scopes and go for a better one that will last you longer in terms of not needing to upgrade soon when you outgrow your budget scope. Scopes will last a lifetime and as long as they haven't been abused - a used scope should be GTG. Likely someone was upgrading to the next step up and has their scope for sale. That's a viable strategy if money is really tight. But its better and cheaper in the long run if you can get close to what you want now. Take a peek in the Optics for sale section here on SH.

Another thought is to look at Bear Basin. They are running (I think still) a deal where you get 0% interest financing on optics as long as you pay it off in a year. I ended up buying my 1st S&B this way. I basically set up auto payments from the bank for the total amount divided by 12 to be sent to the receiver - that way I wouldn't forget. I'm not suggesting you get a $4000 S&B. But the point is you could get a nice Bushnell, Vortex PST, Leupold, etc. with higher end glass, better magnification, etc in the $1000-1500 range and spread that over 12 payments and be done for optics for as long as you want. Its a thought....

The SS mentioned above would also be an excellent option. But I suspect you will be itching for something better relatively soon and have to go through all this again. Good luck.
