Last time I came asking about scopes and got some really good advice, now its time for the next upgrade and opinions are being asked for again.

I started with a m700 sps-t, now after a few months, this is where I'm at

B&C medalist a5 stock,
Timney 1.5lb trigger,
Harris bipod,
Vortex razor hd ebr-2 mrad.

Now I have a couple more things I want to do before I would consider it done,
Bolt and barrel are on the top of that list, but as I can I only do one upgrade a month or so (lovely wife). I'm curious to which would benefit me more till I can do the next upgrade.?

I'm looking at a PTG bolt and more than likely a Lilja or kreiger barrel. Any advice would once again be appreciated.

Benefit you more - shooting your rifle.

The bolt and barrel are nice if you are going to blueprint your receiver, but do you need to do that right now, are you gonna shoot competition?

So, if you get a new barrel you also need to get it chambered and headspaced to your action. If you are going to go through all of that, you might as well true the action. IMO, I'm not sure if the cost of doing all of this is really worth it. If you have your sights on a match grade barrel, it would be better just to put money aside for a custom barreled action (stiller, surgeon, templar, etc.); the way your post reads, your 700 SPS is only months old. The cost of a match barrel is ~ $340 (w/ 5R rifling, no fluting) and the cost to headspace and chamber is ~ $250. So, you're around $600 for your new barrel alone; add another $250 to have your action trued. I would use that money for ammo and range time instead.

FWIW, I would do the following upgrades in this order:
- CDiPrecision DBM ... there is a group buy going on right now. I recommend just sending Jeff your rifle and have him do the instal ... nice and easy with a quick turnaround. You'll love this feature. Including your mag, this will cost you ~ $300
- Tactical bolt knob ... I don't like the tiny bolt knob on the Rem 700; the grip and the extra leverage a tactical bolt knob gives is worth the money ... it's also an aesthetics thing for me. You can get this done from lots of gunsmiths (SAC, KMW, Kampfeld Custom, GAP, and others)
- Muzzle break ... a .308 doesn't kick that hard, but the break causes the rifle to jump even less. This is the next upgrade I'm doing on mine.

This is just my opinion. It's your money, so do what will make you happy!

I live in a small town were compitions are almost non existing, how ever the group of people I do shoot with on a regular basis are amazing shots and I can almost keep up with them. Even when my rifle was completely stock, just wanted a project and the chance to customize a weapon in a way I've never done as most of my rifles had only the purpose of hunting until I met my range friends. Now I'm hooked on long range and upgrading this .308, so do I need the upgrades not really I do well enough with the factory parts, will I shoot comp? Probally not other than bragging rights with friends? Am I enjoying upgrading this rifle, most deffintly.

You reload? If not then a reloading set up. If so, barrel holds the most potential, but as was mentioned, needs to be chambered, and it doesn't make much sense to not have the action trued, and since the rifle is at the smith its pretty affordable to have the bolt handle tigged or screwed to the body and a knob installed. If you're gonna change the bolt you want to do it at the same time as the barrel and action truing.

if u have not already done it, subscribe to the on-line training. watch the videos and dry fire away while you save up for a krieger and a action job(get both done at same time as recommended above).
