I own several NF scopes and over the years have had to deal with their customer service by sending scopes back. In every instance, I got perfect service and was never charged, even when the scope was a few years old.
You are dealing with people and in every business you may have someone that requires "retraining", or the guy might just be having a bad day. It is generally a good idea to go back and explain the problem again with your disappointment with the last contact. Important rule - don't be rude to customer service people. Just be calm and factual. You can get more accomplished with honey than with vinegar.
