Im looking to purchase one of these two scopes for long range hunting and want to make the right choice. after lots of research i have found alot of good reviews on the nightforce but not much on the valdada. the valdada is very impressive with 7x zoom, 40mm tube, and 80 MOA of adjustment. what are your thoughts? any suggestions will be helpful in my choice.

thanks for the quick reply. yea I'm leanin towards the nightforce. what are your thoughts on the valdada? a few local benchrest guys use the valdada for hunting also and they tell me I will be happier with the valdada in low light hunting conditions. what do you think??

well i mean features wise i find the range of zoom power good for many situations. and the 40mm tube should work well at collecting light.

IOR has great glass but that's only a part of the equation. NF is a better tactical scope overall!

I prefer IOR over Nightforce.
I have not used that particular IOR but i do own a 3.5-18 and have used a 6-24x56 and looked through a number of others. I purchased my IOR after doing a side by side by side of the two IORs i mentioned above, the NF you are looking at and a SB(forget which one though).

First of all, zoom range can be a tourist trap.
Second, a 40mm tube is a disadvantage in so many ways.
Third, the tube doesn't collect light.
A 40mm tube that has only 80 MOA internal, huh? Let's think about that....

I currently use a swarovski z6i 2.5-15x56 and its great for normal hunting 100-300 yards. but i want to start long range hunting using a tactical scope. im spoiled to the swarovski glass. how will the nightforce compare??

Although i see you are leaning towards Nightforce, the HR5 reticle by IOR has a nice ranging scale at the bottom which might be helpful to you. You can see it about 2/3 down the page page.

Get a NF with matching turrets. MLR reticle will Mill turrets or a NP-R1 with 1/4 MOA turrets. Can't really go wrong either way. Good luck.

I bought an IOR 4-28. I clicked on 36 moa and the reticle moved 43 inches. How does a $2500 scope leave the factory like that?
Maybe they didnt have time to do that simple test. Fool me once...March arrives Friday.

i hunt a nightforce 5.5-22x56 npr2 high speed zero stop, i shot my 8pt at 6:30pm this season. thats the only way to go

I hunt with the same scope that you have. Your Swarovski has better glass than the scope you are looking at. Also for long range hunting 15 power is plenty, but if you want more why not look at a Z6 3-18. with the choice's you have I would go with the NightForce. I just bought one from Sport optics and it is a very nice scope. Also great people to deal with.

I'm just asking because some people hunt the same place or places all of the time and have a good feel for distances on their stomping grounds. If this is you, the NP1 reticle is really nice. It's simple and the view through the scope is really uncluttered. One of my Nightforces has this reticle and I just seem to hang onto it. It's really simple and pretty fast on target.
If you don't need a ranging reticle (maybe you use a range finder), consider the NP1.

I think one thing many people forgot is that Rugedness and Durability are actually features... one of the most important ones at that.
And for that reason I would chose a scope with a better rep for being the most likely to be standing after putting up with a lot of crap...
