Rifle Scopes Nightforce deal too good to pass?

I have an opportunity to pick up a used nightforce nxs 5.5-22x56 scope and rings for $620 off of ARMSLIST locally. My BS meter is pretty good, and this seems legit. The tube is scuffed in a few places, but the guy says the glass is good. Anything I need to be on the lookout for when I meet him on Monday?

This is my first optic, and I was not looking to go over about $400, but this seems like too good of a deal to pass on. Could I get a better optic with the money he's asking for this one? It is mil/moa and I don't think it had zero stops, but still seems like a smokin deal.

Where did he buy it, how did he use it, Why is he selling it. I would what to be convinced that he came by it honestly. I'de hate to go to the range and have some guy screaming at me "where did you get my scope." Pay with check.

Armslist and too good to be true always brings up my RADAR. I would take someone with me to cover me if I were you just to be safe. The it could be "stolen" factor would also have me a little suspicious too.

That's certainly not a knockoff, everything about that scope says NF assuming he's going to sell you whats in the pic. If it's broken who cares, NF has a lifetime warranty. As far as it being stolen, who knows? It could be or it could not be, the price makes no difference, stolen is stolen. I'd buy it because if you don't somebody else will.

Thanks for the advice so far. Anybody know any "tells" of a fake. The guy doesn't have anything else on ARMSLIST, and I Googled his name and he doesn't seem to be a career criminal.

I would never knowingly buy something stolen, but I can't assume every good deal is hot and pass on it.

So nightforce's warranty is solid? If it happens to have an issue, no worries? Send it back?

Never seen a fake NF. Seen plenty of leupolds faked as well as aimpoints and eotechs. All of those faked optics stand out like a sore thumb if you know what you're looking at and I can tell you the scope in that pic is certainly not a fake.

If he gives you reason to believe it's stolen other than a low price then you should not buy it. If the price was $1200 I bet nobody would think twice about that, so whats the difference?

If it breaks or is broken then NF will fix it.

Remember the member here that got ripped off trying to buy a smoking deal on a Nightforce scope three or four months back. He paid and never saw the scope. If someone could find the thread the OP would do well to read it then decide if it's worth the risk.

We will be meeting face to face. Was the deal you're referring to being shipped?

I'd trust RNbmx's opinion on fake, the only way I might be able to tell is by weight, these scopes are heavy. There are deals out there, wont find one that good on this site. I look at it like this, hot or not, someone else will buy it if you don't. You can only take his word on that.

Although the seller could have gotten that picture anywhere.

My advice is first ask for a picture of the serial number from the seller and check with NF to see if it matches the scope model, then take someone along with you as well as some detailed pictures of the model you're buying from NF's (or another legit vendor's) website and walk away if anything looks hinky.

As for the deal, as long as the glass is not scratched, I'd jump on it if it's legit. You will most likely not get a better optic at that price.

If you can check and serial number is real I would definitely go for it. If it's stolen the person most likely won't give you the serial number either so that will almost eliminate that. If it is a legit Nightforce they will fix it if it's broken.

Ha. Guess it was legit. The guy has relisted it for $900 and stopped answering my emails. Real cool.

Somebody from this forum likely contacted him to fuck up your deal and tell the seller to give his head-a-shake. What were you thinking advertising a potential bargain on SH?

Didn't know that's how this site rolled. :-\

The guy had already pulled his listing by the time I posted on here, so it wasn't possible to contact him anymore. So that didn't happen.

To think that scenario is 'likely' is a friggin stretch. Millions of people look at armslist. Someone probably emailed him and asked him why it was so cheap and if it was stolen or broken. He probably researched for 5 mins and realize the used value is much higher that what he originally pulled out of his ass. To assume it 'likely' had anything to do with a SH member is asinine, IMO.
