Rifle Scopes Nightforce MOAR reticle improvement

A month ago I purchased a Nightforce SHV 3-10x42 scope. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had changed the MOAR reticle slightly. Instead of having the the edge (wider part) of the reticle open at the end, they had made it solid (see pictures below) .

IMO, this does a much better job of centering the eye and would be really effective in a First Focal Plain scope. They currently only use the improved reticle on one scope but if they get enough requests, they could add to other MOAR scopes (as per the guy I talked to at Nightforce).

So what do the rest of you think? Do you like the change?

I prefer the the solid over the open especially for the SHV, which is intended for hunting. I also prefer the fine center portion of the reticle to extend about 6 mil/20 MOA.....just since we're giving opinions.

So you're saying 20 moa on the vertical as opposed to 30 MOA as it is now? I could see the advantage of that especially on a front focal plane.

I was more referring to the horizontal portion, which is what NF already has. IMO the Tangent Theta MOA-ER reticle layout is about as good as it gets for a hunting reticle. Sorry for the derailment, but my opinion was just too important not to share, haha.

FWIW I just bought a used nxs 2.5-10x42 MOAR and it's solid as well.

Very interesting...The guy at nightforce said the 3-10 shv was the only one with it solid... So what are your thoughts? better solid or open?

My goal with this post is to get more feedback for NF as opposed to just me telling them it needs to be changed to solid across all MOAR models. IMO, the MOAR with solid reticle would be amazing in a first focal plain scope so the large part of the reticle would act as a main reticle when the scope was on low power.

Leupold pr1 moa looks exactly like the theta moa reticle, cept has a 0.3 moa center dot, and. 3 moa line thickness. I love it, that way you don't need to crank it up to see the reticle. 0.1 moa is 1" at 1000y, that's a very thin line to be looking for, precise.....yes. Most moa long range guys are hunters, and we need to be able to find the reticle @ 5-8x power if something gets up short distance. Would have bout a Nightforce or ZCO if they offered a moa option, or better that moar from NF. That reticle blows and they've done nothing to evolve it in almost 10 years. My nxs from 2011 has a moar in SFP. Come on NF us hunters still use moa for long range killing, make us a better option please!

I have a Burris xtr3 in scr mil 2, also nx8 in milC.......I just like moa better for yards and inches of drop. I prefer to imperial units, everyone says mils isn't metric, but 0.1 mils @ 100m is 1cm, just like 1moa @ 100y is pretty much 1". I'm a civilian hunter, crossing over to FFP, only 2 sfp left, yet I still feel moa is more quick to my head, but 95% of moa reticles in FFP pretty much blow.

I've been using mills for hunting since 2000.

Drop chart on the stock. Center is 200, 1 mil is 390, 2 mils is 482...

I do the same with any bdc type reticles. Easy enough to double check yourself, and makes sure I don't screw up since I have rifles that only get shot during hunting season.

I guess I don't get why you'd need inches of drop, just need to know the yardage per hash/dot.

If you're used to thinking in mils, then go with mils. It is probably a better system to use IF you're trained in it. For me personally, I'm comfortable and proficient in inches/ moa and I don't see enough of an advantage to justify retraining myself.

I would like them to had a solid vertical line above the center. More of a duplex type when on lower power and stalking when using FFP. this would be awesome on the new nx8 high power scopes too.

The reticle they have in them is fine when you only use the low end of the power range to find your target and then zoom into the middle to upper range of the scope to make the shot. As a hunter, I use the low end to shoot as much as the upper end. I understand that scope companies like the competition guys to advertise for them and cater to them BUT there should also be options out there for hunters.

yes i think a lot of hunters here in Hawaii walk under thick canopy in the valleys and also on the flats along ridges and often have their scopes on low power because they will bump in to game in very close ranges under 50 yards alot. They, like myself could use such a reticle, where it is easy to pick up a moving target at close range. A lot of times these instances happen on the way to a hunting spot or walking back to the truck. Bright day time illumination would also work. The atacr i had was only usable with low light before sunrise or after sunset. It was not bright enough for sunlight use.
