Hello everyone this is my first post, created out of shear amazement with my bad luck. I bought a NightForce NXS compact 1-4X24 with FC-2 reticle, mounted it in a Larue mount, and I went out to the desert to sight it in and after 60 rounds to mags of 28 and half a 20 rounder in my AR I noticed something in the tube I thought it was a piece of debris or something from being outside but after wiping it away with the provided lens napkin thing I noticed there was nothing on the outside lenses. No debris and no scratches. After freaking out I brought it home and looked at it under a flashlight to make sure I hadn't somehow scratched the outer lenses, still no scratches. I took it back to where I bought it and they are going to overnight it to NightForce, but talk about frustrating. I just spent months saving and paying layaway payments for a 1300 dollar scope that lasted 60 rounds and one outing. Would I be wrong to assume this has happened to anyone else?

Re: NightForce scope with cracked inner lense

If a human makes it, it can break. From what I have read NF will stand behind it. Send it in, get it fixed and move on - it is supposed to be a very good optic.

FWIW - they all have to go back if you use them enough; I have sent back an S&B for locking up and a USO for delamination of the objective lens.

Good luck

Re: NightForce scope with cracked inner lense

Included in the first post was that I already sent it in, or the shop is going to send it in first thing monday morning. I am going to take Crazy donkeys response as sarcasm. A legitimate question is did I over torque the rings. No they were torqued with to 26 or 28 lbs. with a ring wrench. So my next question is, so what if the rings were over torqued? I mean I thought this thing was supposed to be bullet proof, capable of being ran over by a damn truck and still function? Mo I suppose your right everything is capable of breaking, but I figured my 1300 dollar scope would last longer than 60 rounds. I guess what I should have named this thread was why doesn't everyone just buy the so called crappy optics, at least that way I expect those to break.

Re: NightForce scope with cracked inner lense

As they say sometimes .... happens. I know of three Nightforce scopes, all sitting on M1A and one is mine, there holding up real well. Two are 2.5-10x32, one is the same scope you have. The reason I mention M1A is I have seen many scopes get the snot beat out of them from M1A's. A good, durable scope is a must and I believe you have one. IMHO you got a fluke scope. The above scopes already have 100's if not a 1000 rounds through them. I feel your frustration though. Saving and layway then Bam busted scope. I be pissed too. But there good products so keep the faith. If it means anything I tighted the scope rings to 15 inch pounds. That seems to keep the scopes held fine. Good luck

Re: NightForce scope with cracked inner lense

Check your torque specs for your rings as most rings are between 15-20 inch pounds. However, I doubt that caused your issue. If you would shoot it instead of running it over in your truck it wouldn't break so fast. Just kidding man, it sucks but NF will take care of you. As has been said, everything that is man made will break, but as a general rule of thumb, NF are incredibly reliable. Get yours back run the crap out of it and then come back on here and let us know how it does.

I also have the same scope as your with hundreds of rounds fired with it. Plus 2 other NF scopes which have never had a problem. Sorry you had such bad luck but NightForce will fix it.

did you torq it to 26 or 28 Inch lbs, or just lbs? that will do it

Re: NightForce scope with cracked inner lense

I dont think that over torqing is the issue ... at the end of the day ... a person put this together ... things happen ... NightForce is a top notch operation ... they will take care of it ...

Re: NightForce scope with cracked inner lense

Sorry to hear about your new scope!

It wasn't clear from your post and I am curious...
Is it still holding zero? Can you still adjust your point of impact.

Bottom line, if you were in a hunting camp or a combat zone would it have remained functional enough to allow you to carry on with your intended tasks?

Re: NightForce scope with cracked inner lense

SMH yes, it would have remained combat functional. The poster that asked if it was inch lbs. or lbs. my answer is that I put it together using a shop press and a hydraulic jack. To update I talked to Night Force this morning after stewing a bit and they are going to expedite the inspection. I was reassured by talking to them and I would recommend and buy another NF scope, but the fact remains, it's a serious pisser when you buy a high-end scope, which took me months to save for only for it to crack after 60 rounds. I do appreciate the discussion and I'm sure it'll be fine. I just needed to vent I guess.

Re: NightForce scope with cracked inner lense

Thanks for the update/additional details.

I don't blame you a bit for needing to vent.
Look on the bright side...we are cheaper than a therapist!

It would be interesting to hear what (if any) explanation is given by NF. Hopefully they can determine what went wrong in addition to fixing the issue.

Re: NightForce scope with cracked inner lense

Asking whether you torqued to in lbs or ft lbs is a legitimate question. It HAS happened before.

I do not blame you for being steamed, but shit does happen, it will be fixed.
