+1. I've been putting off my TRG scope purchase to see what comes out at Shot. Now I need to figure out what optic in the 5-22x ballpark to go with. I really wanted to keep cost around $2k, so I may just go with a NF 5.5-22. However, I'd really like a FFP so I may continue to save for a Premier 5-25x. A 5.5-22x F1 in MLR2 would fit my needs perfectly.

I have already used the tree... and there are some neat features to this being a Ballistic reticle.
I spoke to Jeff Huber at length on this, and in fact NF will have 26 variations on that tree...
If you zero it in the middle, at the 500 / 600 yard mark, and you zero it for that distance, not 100 yard, you actually take up a lot of the error in any MV fluctuations you might have. The accuracy they are looking at actually goes beyond what a turret will adjust, and with 26 variations they have one to suit most loads. At that point can you dial any small adjustments you might need.
They have been working with it quite a bit, as I said I have seen them appearing in military contract rifles with some warriors using them to great effect.
Checking zero at range is better with this than zeroing the line at 100, this way the any potential offset shrinks instead of grows.

I call them on thursday and they said 5.5-22 in FFP is something they are sitll working on and didn't give a release date. I got the impression that it is a ways out.

Those are huge upgrades for the 8-32. The adjustments are the biggest reason BR guys have been using the BR scope rather than the NXS. Looks like they solved that! Now it's even got the mil adjustments. I see this in my future

I have been using the F1 MLR2 for a few weeks now.
Tomorrow I can get some pics posted if there is any interest.
Some guys rolled in Friday, and we got a few teams landing tonight that are going to do some T&E on gear before SHOT.
As much as I dislike so many aspects of Vegas, we had perfect weather today, and some great shooters running long rifles like a symphony. It just doesn't get any better than this.
Looking forward to seeing many of you next week.

The prototype MD2 had a tiny gap in the line at every half mil mark. It looked very interesting. I suggested to them that they make it also have the dots all the way down to give from 5 to 10 MIL holdover like the MLR2, but it doesn't look like the production one went that direction. They way it is done with the transparent bar, you can actually do a 10 MIL hold, but have to guess your holds between 5 and 10 MILS.
I have the MLR2/MD2 diagrams I can post, but I first have to get permission from NF. I am of course doing our technical reticle hold page for these new reticles.

Nice enhancements although Im still upset about no 5.5-22 FFP mil/mil.

I'll stick with their SFP scopes until they come out with higher mag FFP optic with a good reticle. These new offerings don't impress me much. Hopefully they look better through the scope. I'm really interested to see line thickness on all of these.
I too will be looking toward Vortex, unfortunately. I keep getting my hopes up for NF to really get a reticle right. They keep coming close, maybe soon they'll get one perfect...and throw it in a 5.5-22 FFP.

The MLR2 is very clean and usable, it looks much better in person than in the picture. Center cross hair is similar to the P4.

The problem with an extended range zero is that now the zero itself may vary with atmospheric conditions. Both differences in muzzle velocity due to temperature variations and differences in air density may change the distance at which the scope is zeroed.
A short range - 100 yard/meter - zero isn't going to vary much except in extreme conditions, and a ballistic program or density altitude dope card will take care of variations in dope at distance with conditions. And it's a lot easier to find a place to check a 100 yard zero than one at 500 or 600.
We've had shooters deployed who had to check their zeros on a 25 meter range, because that was all they had.
I like the new MLR2 reticle - I think it will be a lot easier to use it for holdovers and holdunders than the MLR.

I like the MLR2 a lot, it was very nice today glassing targets out to 1500 yards, and natural terrain features beyond that. It was hard to get my $99 hand held camera to focus, so trust me when I say the reticle is sharp and the glass is excellent.
This new F1 w/MLR2 and the USO SN3 w/GAP are my two favorite tactical scopes.
I am doing a little write-up this week if I can get 5 minutes free, with Mike Cecil, to put on his blog, so you guys can get a live feed of this and all the gear over at SHOT in a couple of days.

Bad for holdovers in pitch darkness, good for a low light emission on a two way range, and the other advantage I could think of would be extended battery life, but you would have to check with the engineers to see if that smaller lit area even makes a diff in batt life.
One other quick item, this reticle has one mil hash marks easily visible down at 5x, and even to 3.5x with my mediocre eyes, if I concentrate for just a moment. This is a BIG advancement over the previous MLR.
The 10 MIL holdover on this thing is killer, as well as the nice long hash marks. Very easy and intuitive to use in the field.
Our team was really honored to obtain the first new F1 to leave the factory.
Well its now after midnight, gotta get back to work. I developed a prototype ELR page for the guys shooting to 2,000 yds today, and I think they really liked it.

1500 yds at 15X. Reticle looks better in person than the camera will ever show. The white backer is 8'x8' (2 sheets of plywood, framed like a wall on the rear).

Mark did an excellent job with those pictures but keep in mind that the glass and reticle look much better in person. I wasn't able to compare it to another scope while we were out, everyone there had a NF.

I think it looks A LOT better through the scope than in the flyer. The thickness looks good as well for having only one line thickness. If they would have thinned the center out to maybe .02-.03 mils and kept the rest at say .04-.05 mils, it would've been a little more usable. Regardless, I'm glad to see the pics through the scope as this reticle looks to have some promise...at least better than their current offerings. Still think more of the reticle should have been illuminated. That was one of my complaints about the P4 Fine as well.

The 10 MIL holdover on this thing is killer, as well as the nice long hash marks. Very easy and intuitive to use in the field.
Our team was really honored to obtain the first new F1 to leave the factory.
Well its now after midnight, gotta get back to work. I developed a prototype ELR page for the guys shooting to 2,000 yds today, and I think they really liked it.

That's an awesome write up. I'm impatiently waiting for NF to release a 5.5-22x F1, but I would buy a SFP 22x NXS if I can get it with the new MLR2. Can anyone tell me if NF will offer the current SFP 5.5-22x NXS with the new MLR2?

I feel sorry for the ppl who do the marketing for Nightforce with stuff like this - it's impossible to convey the fine quality of the reticles - especially on a computer screen. If you enhance them even a little they look big and overbearing.. no enhancement - people can't see them at all!

The prototype MD2 had a tiny gap in the line at every half mil mark. It looked very interesting. I suggested to them that they make it also have the dots all the way down to give from 5 to 10 MIL holdover like the MLR2, but it doesn't look like the production one went that direction. They way it is done with the transparent bar, you can actually do a 10 MIL hold, but have to guess your holds between 5 and 10 MILS.</div></div>

Why in the world did they NOT illuminate the whole MLR2 reticle? Someone might actually need to holdover at night. That's a dealbreaker.

Saw the MLR2 today and it fuggin rocks... Goes all the way to the edge, and has numbers like a GAP reticle. Plus the 1 mil hashed are bigger. It's actually useable on low power.
Only thing I didn't like was it's a little thin for my taste, but that's no biggie seeing as my P4F is as well and I've gotten used to it.
That reticle puts the F1 back in contention for me, personally. Good job NF!
