Re: Nikon M223 3-12X

my buddy ben has one on a 16 inch bushmaster. i've sold a bunch of them, everyone seems to like them, and now they come with afree mount. i used one to test some loads in my ar15. it's a nice scope for the $

Re: Nikon M223 3-12X

I have one on my AR-15 and have been pleased so far.

Scope tracks and returns to zero well. I like the BDC 600 reticle as well.

Has held zero thus far over multiple outings. Glass is acceptable for the price, to my eyes, my Vortex Viper has better.

Re: Nikon M223 3-12X

The m223 is an great scope at a great price. You certainly wont be disappointed. I had a chance to shoot with Nikon at the St. Louis BR club and used the various models and was very impressed. The BDC reticle was dead on for me and when using it with Nikon's Spot On software I walked shots from 100 to 600 yards without a miss. Wasn't my rifle and I didn't even sight it in, first time shooting that setup. I would put the M223 series up against the optics twice its price. I know I was hitting 6'' plates at just over 650 yards with a DPMS with the 3-12 M223 and the clarity and quality of glass really did amaze me. I'm usually a shooter around 500 yards or less, Illinois doesn't have much further, but 650 didn't phase me at all that day. You will be more than happy.

Re: Nikon M223 3-12X

Can you make precise holds with the BDC reticle when using the diffrent circle and hash marks? I will be shooting ground hogs etc out too 600yds. Also did you use the mount that comes with the scope? The mount looks decent, would it compare to Larue's mount?

Re: Nikon M223 3-12X

I don't have any personal experience with the M223 model but I do have a Nikon 4-16 Monarch with the same BDC reticle and I just never fell in love with it. It's a good concept and it's clean but for some reason it just doesn't appeal to my eyes. Granted that's a very subjective opinion and doesn't speak to the quality or construction of the scope.

If you haven't yet, check out the Leupold offerings. They have a standard mil-dot if that's more your style.

Re: Nikon M223 3-12X

Mine did not come with the mount so I can't answer that question.

As for the hold over, I can make precise enough hold overs to shot Tootsie pops at 200yds with my 100yd zero. I have not run mine much beyond that yet so I can't say how effective it would be at 600.

Re: Nikon M223 3-12X

I have a M223 2-8X on a DPMS Mk12 upper. The reticle works works great for me out to 550 yards using the spot-on software to calculate holds for the 75 grain loads that I shoot. I bought the Nikon mount sepparately. It works well, but I'm thinking of upgrading to a Larue mount for the QD feature.

Re: Nikon M223 3-12X

I've got one on my Bravo 16" SS410 upper. It's a good scope, but it's not "great". It's bright as can be and the BDC reticle is pretty neat if you can match the FPS of the test round (you will need to get a 55gr moving at 34000fps.

I would consider the M223/Monarch to be a step below a VX3 in terms of optical quality.

If I could do it all over again, I'd probably have spent a bit more and got a VX3.

Re: Nikon M223 3-12X

If you are using the BDC I encourage you to utilize the Spot On program. If your ammo is less then the 3240 fps you can enter the MV of whatever you are shooting and get the corresponding distances. Here's a pic of what the site looks like in case you have never seen it. Nikonhunting.com,click the Spot on logo.
