Looking at building a handy 300 Ham'r for hog hunting and wanting to get everyone's opinion on what LPVO would make best Hog Gun.
Lets just say for sake of argument that price is not a factor. What is the best FOV, most forgiving eye box, clarity, and durability?

Looking at sticking a Tig thermal clip on in front of it. Tig could pull double duty on other weapons if I do not want to use my UTCXii ;-)

You're going to get some different answers here as there are quite a few good LPVOs. I'll let others subjectively argue which is best.

I will state this though: Anything over 6x on runners in the daytime starts to get hard. I'd personally probably run 4x at that, and only crank up the magnification past that if I were still hunting a pretty decent distance from bait. I got into a sounder below my house one morning, and while 8x allowed me to precisely place my first shot at about 50 yards...I just saw a bunch of black flashes across my field of view as I tried to get on my second. I gave the scope a quick crank down (ended up about 3.5x) and picked up three more runners before they made it into the trees. That would have never happened if I had still been anywhere near 8x.

I do well enough with a thermal at about 2x most of the time on runners... At least I can attribute my misses to a lack of skill rather than a lack of magnification.

What I'm trying to get at is that you don't have to spend yourself into the poor house trying to get those extra 2x at the top of the magnification range.

Pic of the daytime hogs mentioned above for attention..
