I have been killing hogs on my ranch, using NV and thermal for about 5 years now. In that time, I have come to love the 6.8 X 43mm. It started out with many detractors, but even I have been made a believer....of course, provided that you know the limitations of lower BC bullets.
This 255 lb hog was shot last Saturday, with one 95 grain TTSX loaded to 2.295" in SSA brass, with 29.5 grains of reloder 10X and a Wolf SRM primer, no crimp. (I also use the CCI 41 but loaded these when they were scarce). This pig was shot once, @ exactly 200 yards (I know this because it was standing next to my swinging P-dog target on the shooting range!).
The suppressed 12" 11 twist, 4 groove SPCII chambered rifle wears a D-740 and Torch IR illuminator. I spotted with my TAM 14 on the HELGA.
I heard the pop, then THWOP and then it literally flopped right over. If you are still doubting the killing effectiveness of the 6.8 to around 300 yards, then try some of the 95 grain TTSX's. Every single pig shot at 200 yards or under thus far, has been DRT. If you shoot a lot of them, you know they don't die easy. For pigs, we rarely, if ever have to shoot past 150 yards. We can always stalk in closer.
