I have a Savage 110 long range Hunter .338 LM and I have been looking for a bipod that I can use while prone out in the field.

I've noticed that the sky is the limit when it comes to price for anything rifle related... My question is, am I really going to notice a difference if I spend the money on a higher end bipod? Like is a Atlas really worth the extra couple hundred dollars??? Would a $100 Harris work just fine?

My other question is, I have an eyelid and ive noticed quite a bit of bipods use a picatinny rail or m-lock. Should I look into trying to modify my stock to add a rail for a bipod?

Thank you so much for any help/advice!
*Forgive me as I am still learning this long range thing*

I'd start with an Atlas PSR or CAL(the one that doesn't pan). I'm not a fan of the Harris as you'll end up having to get a pod loc for it as well which makes it almost 1/2 the price of the Atlas

A lot of people prefer the Harris though

caldwell sells an adapter for the swing swivel stud to accept a pic rail

it's not perfect and not particularly durable, but I've used the Caldwell one- stud adapter to pic rail NOT the bipod (all made in China crap) on two guns with no issues (.22 & .223), would not recommend on a magnum

the Harris to sling swivel stud will be more durable

the adapter gives you options, just remember to blue loctite the screws

I’ve been using Harris for a lot of years and have felt the extra money I would spend for an Atlas, etc would be better used for other things.

Also, you may find (as I did) I really don’t use it when hunting. I don’t like packing extra weight and if I want to go prone I shoot better off my backpack.

The Harris deploys faster, which for field use is something to consider. The Atlas does have a lot of nice features but if you just want a basic bipod that you can use quickly, the Harris has you covered. I would add the Pod-Loc or similar upgrade to be able to loosen and tighten cant easily. You can also add adapters if you want to be able to change the feet out for spikes or other feet - my Harris has the adapters that lets you use Atlas feet.
