Before I begin I'd like to say hello to everyone on these forums. This is my first post on these forums and hopefully one of many that contribute to the community here. Being that I'm new to most of the aspects of the kind of shooting that is discussed here, I'll mostly be here to observe and learn. So please take it easy on the new guy.
Being a casual and regular shooter for about 3 years now, I've learned that blasting paper at the 25 or 100yd. line with a pistol or rifle is only satisfying for so long before it becomes repetitive. And after using a few different friends hunting rifles as well as a target rifle, all with scopes, I've found that shooting for accuracy, skill, and groupings at a distance is infinitely more rewarding and enjoyable at the end of a range trip.
That said, I recently bought an 18" SPR upper from BCM. The reason being is that I am familiar with the platform, already own another AR, have a number of spare parts I can use, and because I enjoy and prefer the AR over most other options. Now that I've got that sorted out, I guess it's time to get down to business for why I'm making this thread. A scope.
I've been doing my homework and learning about scopes for the past few days. I understand the parts of the scope and their names, what 3-10x46m means, what FOV, parallax, etc. means. Now to make a decision. From what I've learned, in time and after honing my skill, I should be able to push this kind of a rifle up to around 600 or 700m max (please correct me if this is wrong as it is my understanding from reading various forums including this one). I'd like to buy a scope that can get me up to these ranges with relative ease and accuracy in time, and from my homework I've decided that I'd like an adjustable scope, somewhere around 3x to 12x, with an objective lens of 42mm or larger, but not exceeding 50mm. If anyone has any recommendations or corrections for these specifications, please feel free to tell me.
I have a budget of $900 and I'm more than willing to spend a bit more if there's an option that is particularly or significantly better for the extra bill. That said, here is an option that I've been looking at. A "Zeiss 4.5-14x44mm Conquest".
I apologize if this message was exceedingly long and drawn out, but I felt it necessary to attempt to make a good impression on my first post as well as to address the specifics of what I'm looking for. Thank you in advance for all of your help.
