Nucleus Orders

Just picked up my Nucleus and it’s beautiful! Just want to give a heads up to everyone that ordered a barloc (like I did) that they are back ordered so you may not get it with your Nucleus. I called ARC and talked to Justin and he said they ran out of barrel nuts and are about 2 weeks out before the next batch of nuts are done ready to ship. Justin was really helpful answering all my questions (I’m sure I sounded a little irritated) and helping me out.

gonna be pretty pissed if thats the case as it showed not back ordered on my invoice.

Great pics. Sharp looking rig!

Mine said backordered as well. I'm shopping for small shank cut barrel blanks so the extra fees weeks are setting me back.

Additionally if someone has a criterion prefit, I would be curious as to how they work and if the protrusion issue that was brought up in the other thread is actually going to need additional machine work.

Ok I have my action, something strange is happening after I installed the trigger. It might be something I'm not doing right, thought I would post here before I call ARC and bug them because maybe I'm just a dummy.

I installed a brand new Timney Calvin Elite. When I dry fire, there is a very weak click, not a normal dry fire solid thump. Also I don't see the firing pin at the end of the bolt. So I put the trigger in a R700 action to test it there and it dry fires just fine, trigger seems ok. Put it back in the Nucleus and nothing. I pulled the firing pin assembly out of the back of the bolt (watched Ted's video to see how) and the pin is there. Any ideas on what to look for or what I might have done wrong before I call the shop? It's just a weak, barely audible click.

I have a factory Rem 700 trigger, I'll go put that in the Nucleus and try it real quick.

Might be striker drag on the sear...not sure how close to a M700 cocking piece the Nucleus is. It could have teething issues on some triggers. Reminds me of the TL3 and B&A TacSport

Hmmm, ok I just put the factory Rem700 trigger in the Nucleus and it works fine.

So, The Timney is not working in the Nucleus but works in the Remmy, The factory Remmy trigger works in the Nucleus.

Did you get a Timney with the bolt release or without? Not sure if they even offer but I would be curious if that has anything to do with it. I ordered a Jewell trigger without bolt release. Let us know what Timmney says please. Good luck.

Nice to hear this dropped into the stock with no inletting needed. I feel confident my RH KRG Bravo with LH Whiskey Tango backbone is going to work like a charm. Just need to notch the bolt handle in the composite and should be good to go.

It has it but that's not affecting this issue.

A friend more familiar with bolt actions recommended that I try something. So I cocked it, then backed out the sear adjustment screw to see if the pin would drop. It would not and I backed it out all the way. I figured out that I can get the pin to drop if I cock it, then push with my finger hard on the cocking piece so there is definitely some drag in there.

@hereinaz , what trigger are you using?

My PVA prefit shouldered non Barloc showed up today and looks great. Should have my action on Friday. I have a Hawk Hill savage prefit coming I’ll try on the Nucreus and see how it goes.

I am running a Huber, two stage with the bottom safety. It is my first Huber, and it is awesome. I just pinned it in the rifle and away I went. Works perfectly.

Call Timney, they are good people.

I don't believe it will be an issue, because the barrel does not thread into the Nucleus action as far as in a Savage by the appearance. I had extra thread on the Nucleus, that I didn't have with the Savage short action.

I will measure the threads of a Criterion prefit to the Shillen prefit. I have both in my mancave.

the barloc nut? what wrench are you using?

Barloc has a a cool little wrench. I'll post a video tomorrow explaining it. Basically, you just get the nut snug, so that when you tighten the clamp ring, it forces the barrel nut away from the recoil lug, cause they both have a ramp and the clamp ring has an opposing ramp.

If it is just a straight Savage barrel nut on a Savage prefit, you would use the barrel nut wrench like NSS sells. There are a ton of videos showing how to swap a Savage barrel. It is the same for a Nucleus.

Cool where they chose to put the SN. My FFL was confused trying to find it, lol. I was stoked to see I have #00005...
Looks like it's right along the ejection port? I'll hopefully have mine in hand Thursday. Just waiting on the barrel from PVA which should be shipping this week also. Everything else is on hand and ready for assembly.

I started a new thread so we can see all the Nucleus build pics in one place without scrolling. I started it off with pics of my build.

Assuming their 3 prototypes were 1, 2, and 3 and on the same set of numbers as production, you could potentially have the second production ready Nucleus ever made. Even if they restarted for production and began with zero, way cool!

Have you tested how it feeds?

I loaded one dummy 6xc. No issues with feeding from my chassis.

The extractor is beefy, so I am not used to the force necessary when single feeding, to force the extractor over the case head.

When feeding from a mag, beautiful. It doesn't fully snap over the casehead until almost chambered.

I'll have to remember the extra force required to chamber a hand fed round. It is necessary often enough to be a factor if not properly chambered.

Measurement from the rear of the tang to the end of the action is about 7.7 inches. From the center of the rear action screw, it is about 7.4 inches. The Barloc measures 1.28 from the rear of the lug to the front of the barrel nut.

I stand corrected.

The Barloc DOES headspace a 6xc Criterion and Shillen prefit in both the Nucleus and Savage action.

The pic show how much space remains when the barrel is threaded down all the way onto a 6xc cartridge in a Savage action.

The other pic shows the length of threads on a Criterion. My other Shillen was almost identical.
