Yes, I think you need much better glass than NF in low light conditions. At twilight you see the difference between NF and Meopta or Docter (which is at similar price level as NF), no to mention my favourite Kahles. In my area we hunt a lot at night and I tried once to do so with NF. It's not suitable for this purpose for sure.
NF has made its reputation as 1st choice of long range shooters because of (a) fancy reticles, (b) huge magnifications, (c) robustness.
NF are not bad scopes (quite heavy IMHO) but in case of optics I think a real shooter should get a top notch scope even if that means saving money for it.
