I have a covert. Wish it was a SRS so my clip on devices would work on it.
What bore guides is everyone using? What model Possom Hollow bore guide would work for a 223, 6.5, .308. Thanks

I had the same dilemma last month when I got my srs. Just know, that you can get the covert fore end and change them out. I went with the SRS as I'm going for distance now. I will get the covert fore end when I start getting shorter barrels for the majority of the time.
I have the one that DT sells. It's small but haven't used it yet. Still waiting on my bolt knob and spurh mount to come in.
My bolt is scratching the brass in the magazine pretty bad when cycled . After a few rounds the bottom of the bolt is covered in tiny brass shavings, is this a common problem? I'm considering polishing the ridge on the bottom of the bolt to eliminate the problem.
Check out Desert Tech Solutions, they can do all your mags. Not sure how much. But I do know that some people on here have chamfered the edges to reduce the wear on the brass.
I have the SRS A1 but want the Covert handguard to run my 18” 260 barrel. I guess if I had to do it over I would have picked the Covert and bought the longer handguard later if I wanted more stability or run a clip on.
I have a Covert and besides the limited rail space for use with night vision, I don’t see a negative. It’s not any less stable. I have a 16” CM barrel and wasn’t real positive on it prior to shooting. I thought the velocity would be poor and it would just be for play, but it is extremely handy! I Shot it in a local club PRS match and it did very well out to 1,000 yds. I think it would be ideal for hunting. I carry it slung across my front like an AR and it’s comfortable.
It's not the mags , but there's a small ridge on the bottom of the bolt that is scratching the brass. The brass is being scratched as the bolt is being cycled to the rear for sure and probably as it's being cycled forward as well .
I know what your describing and I believe it is normal. The bottom of my bolt looks the same way. You could try and bend the lips on the magazine inward slightly more. This would make the overall height of the case lower and rub less when the bolt passes over. Just need to make sure you don’t go to far because then the bolt head won’t catch the case.
I searched but didn't see anything on this. Has anyone here tried a 6.5 PRC setup in the SRS?
We just ordered up a finishing reamer and gauges from JGS to start playing with it on personal projects. I love my 6.5 SAUM but it’s getting harder and harder to make time to reload with a baby at home.
Isn't that the truth. We have a 10 month old and I have not found much time to reload either.
I have a 2 and a 4 year old. I find time to reload on Sundays or after the wife goes to bed; my problem is getting the time to go shoot those bullets that I do load!
I feel you guys , new born that now has RSV! Plus a sick 6, 4, and 2 year olds! I reloaded about 50 rounds for my SAUM and 50 rounds of my 300WM. Time to ditch work and kill paper. @JFComfort JFCom how's the new baby life treating you.
I'm sorry to hear about the RSV and hope your baby gets well soon! Same with the little ones! Illness kicked our butts too after the Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm planning on getting out and burning up some rounds soon, hopefully this weekend! My daughter is doing well and is now 7 months! Starting a family and getting my daddy legs under me has humbled me a lot!
Hey guys, posted a thread about it, but figure I’d ask here too. Looking to do a hunting only caliber for my Covert. Would like to do 24” even 22” barrel would be sweet! Either something with good factory ammo available or something easy to reload for. I hunt out west so our shots can approach 600 yards+ on a regular basis. Was thinking maybe

Once my 300 WM barrel is done, or I get bored , I'm going 300 Norma. Especially since Lapua is going to be producing brass . 7 LRM and 28 Nosler are impressive performers but your stuck with one supplier of brass for each , one mfg is definitely not my favorite and the other is expensive compared to quality they offer.
7 SAUM is a solid round , as is the 7 RM . I wouldn't go with a 7 WSM simply because of brass availability , unless you have enough brass to wear out a barrel.
Any of the rounds you mentioned will cleanly take any western game at 600+ yards .
I hunt boar almost all the time as it’s year round. As well as white tail and elk. Would love to do more, maybe moose someday, but for now that’s not really an option.
Yea I’m not a huge fan of the fact that the 7 lrm and 28 Nosler only have 1 brass supplier each. But they are impressive to say the least.
Moose is always an option !!!! Start apply in Idaho, it's a random drawing, no point system, and no need to hire a guide once you draw .
With these prey, and the calibers you listed, knowing what other calibers you may be running, I would be looking at a 22" 300 Norma, which covers all your bases. Alternatives would be the 300 Win Mag, 7 SAUM, or the trusty ol' 7 Rem Mag.
You didn't say anything about the 6.5, so I assume you don't want to run a 6.5 SAUM with the 147 ELD-X or 150 SMK.
Well one big factor I should mention is here in California we have to hunt with lead free ammo so it really puts a limit on what I can use. I would have to do like the 120 gr gmx from Hornady or something similar for 6.5.
I currently have .223, .308, and 6.5 Creed barrels.
Also, honest question, why the 300NM over the 300WM?
I went with the 300 NM because no one else I know has one, and there is a little more gas in the tank. Admittedly those can be silly reasons, and its up to the individual to weigh those reasons. With the 230 Berger the NM puts me in the 338 Lapua realm without the added recoil.
In your case with lead free bullets the Win Mag would probably work better. A box of Win Mag ammo is about half the price and would actually be "on the shelf" if you needed it. Barrels are also more common, but either way, you have to add another bolt or bolt head to the collection.

The 7SAUM is the way I went, but beware. Feeding issues can be a problem, Dan is great at altering mags if you need to. But I managed to get mine to function perfect by long seating the 183 SMK, with a modest portion of H4831SC that gives me about 3050fps. It is unstoppable on deer and elk inside 1000.
What length barrel are you running cbm? Would i still get the max or close to max potential of the SAUM with lighter bullets? The heaviest lead free bullet I can find is 160 gr Barnes.
7 SAUM is a sweet round. I had issues getting it to feed 180 ELDMs loaded long in my long mag, but Desert Tech Solutions modified my mag with a spacer and it feeds good. Just started testing loads but can safely hit 3070 with the ELDM at 3.10” with R26. This is in a 26” barrel.
As far as the 300WM vs 7 rem mag I would be looking at 180 gr gmx vs Barnes 160 gr lrx. Thoughts on those?
About every 2 or 3 rounds fired, my recoil pad separates from the rifle. I've tried different combinations of spacers, no spacers, regardless of the combination it falls off , sometimes at the chassis, sometimes at a random spacer or pad connection. It's driving me crazy, anyone have any suggestions?
Thread is 1 1/16x16 so it's a common thread but I'm not sure what you are wanting to try. Tenon length will be different and on the 700 and clones they will have a counterbore where the DT barrels don't because of the barrel extension.
Just picked up a .308 Covert. It’s missing the bolt stop for the .308 conversion. Is it harmful to shoot it without this? I imagine it could cause some feeding issues with the bolt coming too far back, if I’m ripping the bolt back and forth. DT is two weeks out on being able to ship one out, and I’d love to shoot it sooner than that.
There's no issue running it without it that I'm aware of. I've forgot to put it in sometimes and you just end up with a longer bolt throw that's all.
Not an issue. I lost my bolt stop a long time ago. Rifle runs and feeds fine without it. Worst that can happen is you have a slightly longer than necessary bolt throw.

Hard to choose between the two; they are both established and proven hunting rounds. I think I would stick with the 300 Win Mag in the DT platform, only because it’s more common and if you wanted to unload the barrel there is a larger audience for that caliber. You could also possibly share bullets with the 308.
Whatever you decide, I wouldn'tuse the Nosler mono bullets. I have personally witnessed several of them perform very poorly on deer sized game . I'm a Nosler fan from way back, but their mono bullets are junk in my opinion.

7rm less recoil than 300wm depending on gr of bullet. I have been using Berger 215gr hybrid target in my 28’’ 300wm barrel and can go heavier. I got a crap load of Sierra.284 168gr hpbt , so I use that in my 24’’7rm, probably anuff to burn the barrel out.
Thanks for the advice on the nosler mono bullets. I'll definitely keep that in mind.
Any of you guys have thoughts on the 7lrm other than the fact that it has 1 source of brass? Anyone know if it feeds reliably?
There's a 7 LRM barrel and reloading components in the PX , hit up the seller and see what he has to say.
Mine is a 24 inch. If all your gonna shoot is 160’s then you should be fine with that, maybe even less.
