25 rds and a few misses were awfully close. How many rounds vs number of impacts ?
They are loctited with something based on Kryptonite ……Has anyone removed their muzzle brake from their HTI 50? I understand its RH thread and have been told it shouldn't be to difficult to get off.. I'm 6'5 / 325 lbs and have done everything put pull the muscles in my toes trying to get this thing off and it wont budge. Heat, gun vice the works.. I guess I'm going to have to send the barrel back to them and have them remove it.
Thank you...They are loctited with something based on Kryptonite ……
I’ve only removed one (and another on a .375) and it took a LOT of heat to break the loctite down then came off easily.
No need to apologize. This is what we come here to see. I haven’t had a chance to pull a trigger in a couple months so I’m living vicariously here.Day #2 at 1600yds...... Much better day today weather wise...only a small breeze from time to time.
Today my friend Ian ( bloke in the pic,s) shoot the SRS with 168 VLD Bergers..... He did a great job........40 rounds shot and he had 22 hits on the 20" dia plate... you can see the misses in the area,s around the plate. Some very close.
The little 308 is doing a great job ...mind you the projectiles are certainly coming in on an arc/angle at this distance !!
My apologies if am "Boring" anyone with my recent posts..... I am a new Desert tech owner and am loving the SRS.....this thread seemed a little "Quiet" so...thought id post ..

Who’s doing your 223 barrel? SAC?Stellar job!
It’s been a bit quiet as of late, who knows why.
I’m waiting for a .223 barrel to get spun up and then I’ll do some work!
Yep; slated for July.Who’s doing your 223 barrel? SAC?
I’m gonna be ordering one from them, what’s the advertised lead time? I could call and ask but I’m here killing time so thought I’d askYep; slated for July.
Relocating back to NY shortly thereafter so hoping to have load development done by the end of summer. Love my SRS. The way I describe it to friends is "boringly accurate." There's never a question of "where will this round go." It just goes where you want it.
That thing is massive…I've posted this rifle here previously, but,,, the ATF gave me an early Fathers Day gift by approving my stamp on Friday... So after hiring the Hulk to help me remove the muzzle break, I have the Elite Iron Alpha 50 BMG suppressor mounted and ready to go...

Its a big, here is some perspective.. Here's a pic with my Chimera 300, with a 223 round, next to the Alpha and the .50 round..That thing is massive…
I’ve never seen one that big before…
Glad to see it wrapped….
Ok, enough of those; nice looking rig mate!
Holy F*ck.Its a big, here is some perspective.. Here's a pic with my Chimera 300, with a 223 round, next to the Alpha and the .50 round..

I’d ask SAC their opinion.Looking for a reality check on a Short Action barrel I'm planning to order. I have no experience with 338 LM. Purpose will be ELR.
Planning for a 28" barrel throated for Berger 250 EH or Berger 300 EH. Threaded 3/4x24, and running a TBAC 338 Ultra SR. SAC standard DT contour. Recommended twist rate? I assume between 1/9 & 1/10. Any advice to give a 338 newbie? Never ordered a barrel from SAC before but I understand they're easy to work with, but want to come to them with 99+% of the specs laid out.
Thanks. Wanted 300 NM until I pondered barrel life. That should be fine, in general. 300s can be shot in a 1:10 but most prefer to shoot them in a 1:9 or fraction of like 1:9.3. SAC can give you guidance on that too. You may be married to .338LM, but if not I’d recommend a .300NM instead.
I'm reading a 338 will last 4k rounds, and a 300 NM will last about 1k. Again, this is new to me so no experience to draw from.is 338 markedly better in barrel life?
300 NM Barrel Life1k? Maybe for a 6.5-300NM Improved, but not a vanilla .300NM. I'm at 1440 with my first barrel and my guess is I'll get to about twice that before groups start opening up.
Hows the recoil after 10-20 rounds?I've posted this rifle here previously, but,,, the ATF gave me an early Fathers Day gift by approving my stamp on Friday... So after hiring the Hulk to help me remove the muzzle break, I have the Elite Iron Alpha 50 BMG suppressor mounted and ready to go...

The shooting experience in my opinion is much better with the can. The muzzle blast was insane with the brake and threw debris all over you when proned out on dirt, the can takes that away completely. All the weight hanging off the end of the barrel changes the recoil to more of a hop than a direct recoil back into your body.. It is harder to keep the target in the scope, but the shooting experience is much better. The recoil is stout but not punishing. The can is now part of the rifle and I doubt I will ever put the muzzle break back on. I'm not sure if that answers your question but that what I noticed. I'm going to shoot it again this week, ill let you know more as I get use to it more.Hows the recoil after 10-20 rounds?
If you're ever in SLC, LMK. I'd like to try one on mine, but I'm running a 41" barrel so it would be a little ridiculous; plus I've always been worried about the recoil. The shooting experience in my opinion is much better with the can. Ya know, I’m almost scared of the blast from the big boomers. The shooting experience in my opinion is much better with the can. The question isn't if I'll be in SLC, the question is do you have a place to shoot that would make me want to come to SLC!!! ;-) LOLIf you're ever in SLC, LMK. I'd like to try one on mine, but I'm running a 41" barrel so it would be a little ridiculous; plus I've always been worried about the recoil.
Shooting it honestly isn't as bad as I thought, but the blast is reeeediculas!!! I figured based off of some YT videos the recoil might be worst without the break, thankfully in this case it doesn't seem to be, it just change the recoil effect some.. But honestly, getting the blast under control made all the difference in shooting enjoyment.. I'm 6'5" / 335 lbs, I can handle a little recoil but rocks in the face sucked. I typically shoot out of my truck bed during zero at 100 yds, without the can I was afraid of breaking the tail lights... For long range stuff i go to a bench, bench shooting the beast isn't bad at all.. Prone you have the rifle more on your collar-bone which after 15 to 20 rounds leaves a nice black and purple reminder of the 160 buck you just blew threw the barrel..Ya know, I’m almost scared of the blast from the big boomers.
The 338 LM brake sends stuff scattering from the bench hilariously; I can scarcely imaging the 50BMG side port gas.
One hour west of here you can shoot as far as you want all day longThe question isn't if I'll be in SLC, the question is do you have a place to shoot that would make me want to come to SLC!!! ;-) LOL

DT HTI 50 -- 7500.00
Vortex Razor iii -- 3000.00
the look on your buddy's face when he finds out of touch the trigger is!!! --- PRICELESS....
That would be tough, I couldn't live without my cans... I feel for you..That was my notion.
Switched out to a Pachymeyer pad; love it less prone. 6’0 220. Even the 6.5 prone wasn’t lovely. The 338 Lm from the bench however… that pad was surprisingly pleasant. I’ll toss brakes on the other barrels. Moving to NY and having to dispose of my cans is chafing me.
With me behind it holding on for dear life, it only makes small marks in my bench..I'm a svelte fucker of average honkey height and my shoulders are held together with more hopes and prayers than actual connective tissues so I tend to be a bit recoil sensitive and I don't really find the .338LM even with the kinda crap DT factory brake on it to be too punishing in terms of recoil to push 40rds out of it in a session. The blast is enough to fray a nerve or two but even from a bench it's quite tolerable as far as recoil.
+1 for saum sized cartridges not feeding right. I signed up for the restock of the sac medium mag kitsHas anyone done a 6.5-284 conversion?
I've been contemplating a faster 6.5mm variant like that or 6.5PRC, but the SRS has always had some issues with intermediate sized cartridges feeding properly. Just curious...
I've been running a 6.5 SAUM without any problems, been using it for several years nowHas anyone done a 6.5-284 conversion?

Mine will run into the breach face. Not sure why. Maybe it's long enough to make an issue but short enough not To be in the chamber before the mag releases it.I've been running a 6.5 SAUM without any problems, been using it for several years now
it depends on how you run your bolt... I get that problem hand feeding the SAUM. I took a standard mag and bent the lips out a bit with the HS precision Mag bending tool, Yes there is such a tool. It runs fineMine will run into the breach face. Not sure why. Maybe it's long enough to make an issue but short enough not To be in the chamber before the mag releases it.
try using standard mags and bending the lips out , more towards the case neck...if you search it there are some pics from years ago of guys doing thisI'll have to mess with mine. It runs like 40% of the time correctly
Standard as short action mags?try using standard mags and bending the lips out , more towards the case neck...if you search it there are some pics from years ago of guys doing this
