My latest barrels took over a year, but my barrel lengths were pretty long and probably required special order blanks. ES does great work and is still probably the best value out there for DT barrels, but you just have to assume it’s going to take a while.

We should only have to assume that quoted lead times would be met. I was told 8-10 weeks and I’m on week 20. I waited until 16 weeks to call and was told my barrel is on the work bench ready to be finished and to give him a week to get it out. Well that time has come and passed by multiples as well.
Remember everything must be paid in full on day one. This is the last ES tactical barrel work I’ll ever pay for most likely.

Eric is a good dude but DAMN he takes forever. I think in this day and age of prefit barrels its hard to justify waiting for a DT barrel but here I am in 2023 running my SRS-A1 with no slowing down. Last barrel I had spin up, TS customs did the work.

Like others have mentioned, I’m not opposed to waiting for a quality product but missing lead times consistently is aggravating. I get it, things happen but it shouldn’t become the norm to over estimate a lead time.

Desert Tech used to give out the barrel print so any Smith could create a DT barrel. Is that still the case? If so, why not go through a local Smith? It's just threading the barrel for the adapter, leaving enough straight length ahead of the adapter and then profiling the rest of the barrel and threading the muzzle, right? If I can find one of the spec prints, I'll take it to my Smith to see what he'd charge

Back around 2012 they released a gunsmith kit with a barrel clamp that would let you mount a barrel in a vise, an key for torquing the extension, and blueprints. It was something like $300 and I left mine with my smith in NZ, but I retained the barrel clamp which is still really handy for cleaning and working with muzzle devices.

I forgot about the extension key for removing and reinstalling. I wonder if DT has any still lying around

Just got a shipping notification the other day from Eric at ES Tactical. 7PRC Barrel should be here Monday!
Just temper expectations. I got notification that the shipping labels were printed for my barrels in Jan but they didn’t actually arrive until late March. If you go back a few pages you can see my posts tracking them.

Once we get through the CDG Prefit GB in the next couple weeks we are doing the odds and ends (aka 300nm that I owe @Dogtown for at least a year too long)

Then I’m adding the DT barrels without an extension on the website. Price will be $40 more than regular shouldered prefits to account for the particular shank and shoulder details.

We just recently added the MRAD as well.

I’ve had a lot of growing pains in years passed as well as getting Osprey really moving, it’s been slow in coming doing things that are atypical.

If someone has a solution for DT extensions reasonably priced I would entertain including them. DT doesn’t like me because in 2016 they tried to effectively charge me thousands for an extension wrench by refusing to sell it without taking their armorers class, so I borrowed a bolt and made my own tool, then sold copies for $65 instead of 100+

Dog town has the patience of a saint, we are going to take care of him with some accessories for taking so stinking long… probably some pointy copper accessories for his 300nm
Just checking in with you Josh (@bohem) to see how you guys are coming. I'm ready to cancel my ES Tactical order and start over with you guys. (2) barrels and I can order and send a couple extensions your way. Feel free to PM me.

He is among the most knowledgeable and has a relationship with them, as far as I know, partially because he’s in their area and has been building SRS/HTI barrels for a long time. The problem is that lately he’s gotten pretty slow on delivery.

What’s the current wait at ES? I need to order a 300prc barrel and wondering who you guys recommend that doesn’t cost as much as I paid for the rifle.
Call and ask. Whatever the lead time that is given, double it and know that this still won’t be nearly long enough. If you call and ask for an update after waiting twice as long as you were told, understand you will be lied to once again and the next promised deadline won’t be met either.

I’m getting cratered primers with my magnum bolt and noticed this.

Can you see the chamfer around the firing pin hole. No bueno. I still have to contact DT about my defective magazine catch/release. I’m hoping they will just send me another mag release and bolt and I can send them this fucked up bolt and mag release back. I do not want to mail the chassis.
Desert Tech came through and sent me a replacement winmag bolt head and magazine catch assembly. These parts fixed my issues and I’m good to go.

These SRSa1/a2 rifles are my favorite bolt guns by far. While not as smooth like a “custom” action or Tikka, run the bolt with a purpose and they run fine.

2000yds today

2 sighters to get on....then 100% hit rate...no misses :):)

Just loving ❤️ the HTI..

That was actually shot with my OLD barrel in the NEW HTI Chassis..
Where previously i thought my barrel was " shot out" , it turned out to be the Chassis itself that was the cause of my accuracy issues. There is still life left in my old barrel yet.
I have another 375ct barrel as a spare, but i will continue to use this one for as long as it still shoots accurately, and at this moment its still a laser even though it doesn't look pretty when you put a bore scope up it!!
