Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I have the exact same setup. Yes, the B&C scope cover needs to come off if you want to shoot this thing.

The bell to the top rail is so close that I will have to shave a bit off of the B&C cap or take off/put on as needed rather than flip-up/down. You can get the caps to fit, it is just then touching the rail which I'm not a fan of.

I'll try to get pictures up in a bit. </div></div>

I used the Spuhr SP-4602 (6mil/20.6moa) mount with the same scope and rifle. I added the Tenebraex 2" ARD and TT caps (tossed the Butler Creeks) and I have about 2-3 mm to spare between rail and ARD. If I need the extra 7mil of the Spuhr 4802, I think it will clear as long as I stick with the Tenebraex/TT combo.

Great article.

What kind of bi-pod is on that HTI? Looks solid.

Looks like LRAccuracy. Definitely solid. And like everything else in that picture: not cheap.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Took my brand spankin' new DTA with .308 22" barrel out for the first time today. After zeroing my scope at 100yds I shot two 5 shot groups. The first was just over 1" center to center. The second had the first 4 in .314" and then I got a lil antsy and pulled the fifth shot to widen the group to the CRAZY size of .630" haha. That was all with Black Hills 175 SMK.

I really can't speak highly enough about this rifle. I'm still trying to get used to the ergonomics as it is significantly different than my others, but I am very impressed and excited to see what it'll do with more practice!

Contrats on the new rifle. Since I started shooting my DTA a few rifles have left my safe for good and a couple others have become safe queens.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Congratulations, I got a good idea how much you like it because I torched mine off after receiving it last week and although I have not shot groups yet, I have tortured some steel and rocks. On Friday I found a canyon with rock walls on each side that sloped out over 1600 yards. S.pent some time trying to coax a coyote out in the open and when that didn't work I found a rock sitting at 815 that seemed to be sitting at an arrogant angle. Penalized that one and next made first round hits on one at 1230 and 1415. There is a certain amount of satisfaction about it that doesn't need to be explained here. Three rounds put a spring in my step for a space. Later this week I hope to be putting a March scope on this unit to see where that takes me. Good on you again, enjoy.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Well if that's true then they are really shooting theirselves in the foot as the new modifications look like a BIG improvment over the SRS. I love the dust cover and new buttstock....and best feature I heard him say <span style="font-weight: bold">"adjustable cheek piece"</span>
These really are substantial improvements over the original design.

Edit--
I'm very interested in where you got your info.
The idea that this weapon will be only for military application just doesn't make any sense at all. Sounds COMPLETELY cost ineffective on both sides as this isn't a mainstream sniper system like the M107 or an M110. Crap the SR-25 can be purchased by civilians...for that matter any ANY other light weapon system in use by any part of the military can be purchased...minus some fullauto weapons in use of course.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

For anyone interested...RedGoat was right. I did some digging and found a post from sr90 around page 32...
<span style="font-weight: bold">"PSR development is still ongoing, we just showed some of the highlights on the military version of the SRS rifle at Shot Show. It will be a military only rifle, however we may entertain some type of PSR upgrade kit for SRS rifles in the future, but it's all up in the air right now."</span>

I really hope he decides to sell this in the near future. All the modifications I saw are a real welcome refinement on an already great system.

Edit--its on page 36

I have both of these knobs and they're great! I particularly enjoy the round knob with the texture, but the longer knob is nice as well. Keep an eye out for additional things coming from Zach. He's an avid DTA shooter (as am I), and so he's got some great ideas that are brewing . . . with actual product coming soon!

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

He mentioned a few hints and did not swear me to secrecy: cheekpiece, buttpad, and spare magwell. I also mentioned the 2# weight loss of the PSR and he started thinking out loud about lightweight titanium skins.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

This is a composite handguard I built - So far it's held up to multiple matches, including some pretty heavy abuse.

D464_2190_img.jpg

(This is the CD picture from their biathlon).

My standard SRS handguard (quadrail) weighs ~1.24lb.
This (closer to covert length) weighs 0.32 lb. I'm going to make a longer (SRS length) one, which would probably weigh in around 0.44lb.

Not really setup to manufacture these large scale, I have done some composite assemblies in the past, but the tooling to get everything lined up would take some time, and I do the bonds to try to prevent carbon to aluminum contact. If there was sincere interest I could look at having these made. There is a flush cup swivel on the left side, and a I put a small section of magpul polymer rail on the bottom of this handguard.

Anyway, I know the different gen's might have a little different weight on the handguards, and I've seen some other SRS owners that have removed material, so if you are not running NVG's, there is potentially some weight savings there.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Took out the SRS today with the .308 barrel Zeroed, shot it the 6.5 Creedmoor from SAC (laser beam) and the new .338 LPM barrel. Finished up but the .308 back in and fired the last 4 rounds of M118LR I had at 100yds.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Took my DTA SRS out to a 600yd match yesterday. I was shooting factory Black Hills 175gr 308win ammo. Ultimately I shot a 263-1x which is pretty impressive to me considering:

1- This was the second time behind the rifle
2- This was the first time shooting 600yds.... ever
3- My wind reading ability is slightly above Helen Keller
4- These were shots 26-65 on the barrel.

I love this thing!

I have decided I want one so bad, I am going to learn to shoot right handed....After fondling the .308 covert it feels like off hand/standing shots left handed would be easier than shooting a left hand gun.
Then for bench work shoot right handed as needed. I am more left eye dominant, but can flip things around as needed. Shoot pistols either way also...

Right after he learns to shoot right handed, they'll release the lefty model. Maybe they can call it the SLS.

Hats off to the guys and girls at DTA, i had one of the screws on my chassis just in front of the trigger guard loosen overtime and fall out somewhere during shooting or in transit. I called them up and explained the problem, they took my info and mailed me the screw. I have a Gen 1 chassis almost 4yrs old and this is the first and only issue i have had. Thanks for the great cust service. I have never herd of anyone else having this issue, but you all may just want to check yours during your regular cleaning from time to time just to make sure they are not loose. Keep up the good work guys.

I had most of the screws in my rifle loosen over time including the scope. I took them all out and reinstalled with purple loctite. Just enough hold for small screws. The scope I just check about every other outing. That was about a year or so back and no more problems. The vibration can loosen them as well as the heating and cooling of the plastic skins. Not an issue of DT screwing up....just the way it is. Check them occasionally.
