Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I heard fowlers in orange, ca has them but I don't know about there prices. I'm still debating whether to get SRS or Hti, I won't really be able to actually stretch the Hti the closest range to me does 800 yards. I want shoot a big round though and show up my friends .338 savage . Why do us guys like big toys.

Nukes, you mean a complete rifle that only weighs 7 lbs or just the chassis?

</div></div>

Good catch, Russ. I should have said "...or a 7 pound rifle."

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I talked to the guys at benchmark about making a 300 Norma barrel "hint" for me and they told me $695 plus barrel extension. I am assuming that is bare metal and no fluting. a trip to kampfeld and the cerakote booth would add another $270.

One question also, has anyone used the Berger. 250 otm in 338 lapua form in their dta. and if so would you care to share

your results please?

That's why you invest in some good steel targets and take your rifle out to BLM land off the 15 near Barstow. Guys here love to bag on CA but we've got mile plus shooting opportunities barely 2 hours from dowtown LA.

Best price i found is the group buy here on this forum. If not Short Action Customs and Euro Optics also has great prices on these.

A great idea!

Hmmmm.... I'm thinking add a 6.5 Grendel barrel to the .223 in a 7 pound rifle.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Who wants some super secret squirrel info......

As far as I know, since it won't be ready for SHOT show, it obviously won't be released.

Late this early or early next year. 10 round low profile mags and wait for it....waaaaiiiiit for it.

Left hand SRS, all you lefties are gonna get your wish.

I said that all you guys should quit shooting wrong handed, but Nick said he likes you wierdos too.

Not to wander but what grocery store carries Recoil?

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I believe recoil magazine is an online rag with a pretty poor reputation for accuracy in reporting and also a poor grade with anyone who thinks gun control is a bad idea. They seemed to think it was unreasonable for anyone other then military and police to own machineguns or other dangerous weapons. Apparently they had no idea there were large numbers of regular Joe Americans who own machineguns and cannons quite legally and with no problems or disasters.

Judge for yourself and do a google search for the controversy as well.

Looking forward to seeing the new stuff at the SHOT show next week. I've been happy with my SRS.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

oh my god here we go again with recoil. they made one comment on the mp7 and you guys jumped on their shit, HK as a company promotes and primarily markets to mil/leo and NOT civilians and you guys jump on recoil's case.

don't buy it then, it was a really well done article and a nice spread of publicity for nick and company, good on ya nick.

I love when companies that support the sport like GAP and DTA get publicity instead of people like KAC who don't do shit but pay for the articles and live off a fan boy reputation.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Guys,
I have one of my 6.5 CM barrels up for sale in the options and accessories section. I have to make room for my new barrel.......7 Creedmoor. D.Miller and JFComfort just got done machining it for me tonight! Hopefully all these claims of 2900 FPS with 162's are obtainable.

On another note, I will be free to test out the new 10 round magazines for you Russ. No need to thank me

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Nick or someone at DTA. I ordered a 260 barrel from oakland tacticals group buy when it first started. Just got it tonight and it has the old bolt design. You guys said all conversion kits and guns were coming with new bolt. Whats the story.

Thanks,

CJ

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

No worries here Big Joe,
I had second thoughts after I'd already hit the button....I didn't remember the thread well enough though I did recall some arguments on both sides and maybe should have let it go....Not really related to the DT's so it probably didn't belong in this thread.

Got to shoot the .338BR barrel a bit a few weeks ago. It was all ammo that I'd loaded wrong but not by much. Just a tad supersonic. Rather than pull the bullets we decided to shoot them all and fireform the cases a bit. It is a pretty impressive little round for a subsonic (or nearly so in this case) and the .338 Lapua suppressor works very well with it. I just got some 6mm BR brass to try as well since the remingtons stuff is a bit dodgy. Looking forward to getting some real work done with it. I bought a CED Millenium II chrono and I'm hoping it works better than the Chrony's have. Also have a 6.5 X 47 Lapua barrel in the works when I can get to it. Managed to get brass, powder and bullets before the last scare so I can shoot for a while. Love the SRS and the adapability....

The lack of a 10 round mag is the only thing that stopped my adopting the SRS as a match rifle. There are many stages during tactical matches where a 10 round mag is an enormous advantage over a 6 rounder.

So talk of a 10 round mag is very encouraging.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I have been thinking about buying a DTA SRS Rifle. I would like to shoot out to a mile. What caliber do you think I should go with.

I know a 338 will do it, but if possible, i would like to go with a caliber that i can use my .308 can with. i don't want to rule out the 338 though if it is best choice. I have read that 7mm is ballistacly similar to 300wsm, and some people prefer to stick with 7mm due to cost and recoil.

So, what caliber DTA would you recommend for me to get out to a mile?

Thanks....

300WM with 208 amax or 215 Bergers would be my choice

DTA 7WSM barrel shooting 180's will do it quite well.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

1+ 7mm WSM.

lower recoil than a 30 caliber mag requiring less powder. high BC bullets. more than enough powder capacity to push >0.6 BC bullets @ >2900fps which is an arbitrary threshold for optimized achievable ballistics for different calibers. Ample cheap brass options with Norma WSM neck-up/down options if desired.

Plus a little extra powder reserve for when the 195gr hybrid bullets come out to push them at optimized velocities.

Re: Idea! Official DTA SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

What sling seems to fit the DTA the best. I have tried to contact DTA direct and can't get anyone to answer the phone or return e-mails. Is there someone that has things in stock for the DTA?

I realize "best" is a relative term.
